    Default Gas conversion on VP

Im considering converting my reliable VP wagon to duel fuel, as i got a quote for $2365, and with the government grant that makes it pretty cheap...

The car has done 310000km though, and was wondering whether it would handle it well? It still runs really smoothly, and has been regularly serviced and well looked after, however i am concerned it may have to many km on the clock to last the increased wear on the engine?

The body and interior is still in really good condition so i would probably look at getting a reco engine when the current on died anyway...

if i did convert it now, would it be a big job to swap the conversion over to a reco engine in the future? Any advice would be most appreciated, thanks!

What is your reasoning for wanting GAS?

If its the cost of fuel, theres really no need, as you use more gas than you would petrol, so the costs even out in the long run.

Yes, fuel consumption on a volume basis is greater on LPG than on petrol but there is still a significant cost saving. With mostly urban running I am averaging about $8.50-9.00/100km vs $15.00/100km petrol. On a highway trip, $5.00/100km.

Re. longevity: my car was converted at 332K km, now 350K km without problems. Beyond that, ??? It is no major drama to swap a motor with gas on it anyway.

I recently converted my VN to gas, with 100,000ks on the motor, all it has done is caused problems for me. The backfires you get, which you cannot stop at all if it uses the gas ring system, have blown 2 or 3 airboxes to pieces, blown an intake manifold gasket to pieces, and my car wont run on gas at the moment. The fitter, who we know well and has done some very good work to our cars in the past has suggested plugs, so, two sets of plugs later and its still not running properly.

So we are chasing what seems to be an airleak somewhere, we cant find it at the moment, and we have been chasing for months. Its going back to the gas fitter this week, and ive told him i dont want it back till its running properly.

Overall, im not 100% against gas, but im now not 100% for it, seriously consider if you need it, with the gas rebate it is alot more affordable, but you do need the whole amount to outlay and pay the fitter before the government deposits the money in your acount. Which happens generally within 10 days of the forms being given to the appropriate people. Gas will highlight small problems that have previously not effected the running of your vehicle, and make sure ou use a fitter who knows what they are doing. When i first enquired as to getting gas fitted, the wait was a very long one due to a supply problem on gas tanks, there are only 2 manufacturers in australia, and at the moment demand for them is very high.
