Default Are we VN/P owners in the wrong car?

These last few weeks you might have seen me talk abit of AU falcons since I've been driving them all around. FOr the last week I've been thinking you know this thing could probably cut a low 8 second 0-100 but I hadn't ever given it full stick or had the gtech in it to find out. Well tonight I could resist no longer. I parked it on a nice road, cool night not much fuel in the tank, stalled it up and booted it. First run flashed up right on 60 mph (tested it before on gps) 7.43 I was like are you serious?. So I tried on the same flat as flat road I allways test my VN and VP on and stalled it up even more the old straight 6 was wizzing like a sewing machine WIZZZZZZZZZ(dash pad carpet flys off)ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZshiftWIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ 7.59 I was trying to hold the dashpad carpet off the gtechs cable while trying to go fast and watch for kangaroos all at once:P anyway I don't know what to think about all this. I know the AU has tons more potential to handle better than a VN but I really thought it would be slower than it is. A really good stock VN would struggle to make 7.5s and mine never did better than a 6.9, this AU is STOCK 100% factory with 100,000ks on it. I'm thinking that with a better CAI a tune and a zoorst you would be equal to a stock 5 liter VN and that's very disturbing, isn't it?

its what? 10 years younger than the vn/v aswell?

gotta expect better than the vn/p really, even if it does weigh more, being a younger car.

what's the kw/tonne of the AU? but yeah, impressive but the vn's and vps are getting a bit long in the tooth, interesting to see how they'd stack up when the vn/p's where brand spanking.

They weigh 1550kgs and make 157kw, VN's probably average 1360 kgs and make 125kw so it's pretty close, I don't know what times other newer cars can do but I know Sammy could do a best of about a 8.2? in his VZ Ute

This isn't exactly news to anyone who's spent time on a ford forum. I've been saying it to anyone who'll listen for a while, the ford six is one hell of an engine. They have the same problem as the buick/ecotec in terms of go fast mods though, there's pretty much a low 14 second (quarter mile) floor that's a bitch to break through while staying N/A. Not too many road registered N/A 13 second v6 commo's or I6 falcons running around, there's a few but they've almost universally had some big bucks (relatively) poured in.
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

I thought they might have more potential than the V6 but if you are still going to be stuck in the 14's after cam/porting/exhaust then that's just a waste of money like the V6

hahahahaha ford 6 would beat the 8 haha! just about. oh and there is no way that a 4L(with a chip and cia) would keep up with a stock 5L i have an el(same motor etc) and it alwase felt better than the 3.8 after 1st gear (stupid 2.75 diff in them or something) but there nothing special i wouldnt say we were in the wrong car especially with there disposable heads... the 5L fords with cia and chip would struggle to keep up with a vn 5.0L i was beating BA xr8s at the drags.

I have a Vn not much done to it pod exhaust replaced timing chain tensioner(rollmaster) fuel pump and it will beat heaps of cars. my mate always drags me he has a EBII 40l auto 327diff and we drag from the lights i get him every time by heaps and dragging from 50-60 up i still win its got minor mods to. i dragged a 4.8 Eb manual and beat it off the lights up to 130 and its at my back bumper it will stick with a VQ statto 5L up to 80km 90km then it starts to pull away but not heaps. i think my car has done allright for what it is its done 372,000 and just done a crank shaft rear bearing. so now i am dropping a VR motor in it and see how it goes. there was a post last month or so that there was a 89 VN lexen that claimed 175RwKw and it had VR injectors which are slightly smaller than VN VR 280 150 960 injector is 18.25Flow per hour VN is 18.55 280 150 901. anyway we had a open dyno up the mall and he put his car on there and got 96RwKw so whatever he said i dout it true at all.

They are a newer car, and they push out more power in stock form anyway. 120rwkw mates AU got.. I just clicked over 100rwkw with mods..

AU's are ****. I cant believe this has even been mentioned. I dragged an AU ages ago with some shi* bodykit, I asked the guy what was done and he said "exhaust, extractors, cam and tune... and getting diff gears in a few weeks"

I asked him to give me a run from the lights, he goes "Sure "... I beat him by a car length to 80km/h and was pulling away more as well before he pulled out.... and this was before my extractors and diff gears. Just 2.5" zorst with stage 2 cam and CAI.

Airstrike don't get stressed I'm just amazed that a Taxi style Ford is as quick as a VN V6 thus making it quicker than just about all the other V6 Commodores. I also drive another AU, it's a earlier model, alot more K's on it and a wagon and on lpg and it's one of the slowest cars I've ever driven so there is a big difference betwen them

Exactly right, these cars are termed Family/Large cars, I admit they are quick for a 'Family' car but alot of money has to be poured to make them a sports car (mechanically).

I have noticed these days, Commodores and Falcons are not used as family cars, more like taxi's, cop cars, leaseback cars and P-platers are using them.

mums got a AU falcon and they are definately nothing special. Back in the day when my vn was stock it would flog the AU. No doubt the straight 6 engines have heaps of potential in them but you can't dog out the commies. Commies look better sound better and are Australian made, i mean c'mon... wheres your patriotism

In that case, my mate in his VS SS got done by my mates N/A Suzuki Swift 1.3L rolling start from 30...

Is it better when it involves a 5L?

So just because its a V8 doesnt make it the be all and end all...

But that said, i'd rather an 8 over a 4 or 6 anyday... and at the end of the day they will always be in front, but in stock form they too have alot to yearn for.

And for 2-3 grand what sports car can you buy? In fact what can you buy thats faster than a VN/VP V6 or V8 for 2-3 grand? Not much!
