Default Window Wiper Wash Button thing : /

    Hi,
Im not sure what to call it, but on the knob where you turn your window wipers on and stuff, there is that button you push to squirt the water.

The water tank is full, but when I push it no water comes out, just the wipers go... is there a motor for this that could be broken or???

    Thanks heaps.
    Stephen

yeh there is a motor on the side of the washer bottle that most likely is rusted and the fins on the bottom have snapped off so it pumps no water.... they arent very expensive to replace

    Listen for the washer motor.
Unplug the hose to the nozzles and then press the button. Is there a good stream of water? If not then looks like the washer motor.
If there is water then check your nozzles for a blockage.

I had exactly the same problem!

Most likely its the button in the left hand side switch bank that has buggered up.

Pull off the lhs switch bank and have a look and you will see that when you press the button, a tiny rod comes out to make contact with a metal strip. The metal strip gets pushed down onto something else which then sets the washer off. Its hard to explain cos i cant remember the exact details.

What would have happened is that the metal strip will have been pressed further down over time, until the rod can't make contact with it.

All you need to do is fold up a bit of paper or cardboard and jam in behind the metal strip, so that it gets pressed down when the rod pushes on it.

Only took 30 minutes, and better than spending heaps on a new switchbank.

But when you push the button doesn't it rotate the arm turning the wipers on? The contact for the washers could still be stuffed. But I would check the motor on the bottle 1st as this is more common.

No it doesn't rotate the arm. It is just a contact.

99% certain, the issue is with the washer bottle motor or connector.

I'll second (or third) that. I had a similar issue... popped down to my wreckers, got another washer motor out for five bucks, and she works again

    its pretty straighforward:

    1. test the washer motor..... put a multimeter across it and measure the motors resistance. any meter deflection means the motor is probably good.
    2. press thre wash button & look for 12v (with a light or meter). yes = power feed, switch and wiring loom all good. If no, see step 3.

If yes to steps 1 and 2, and it still dont work, the problem is probably mechanical in the motor and replace it. i think its sealed.

    3. Remove the switch block. There are 2 exposed contacts in there that are hit by a rod and join when the button is pressed. On mine, i had to bend the outside contact a bit (at the base of the contact, with fine nose pliers if i remember correctly - carefully!) so that when the wash button is pressed, the connecting rod from the button to the contacts pushed them together.

The "wash" button, when operated, sends power to the "wipe" circuit monetarily so that when u wash u get 1 or 2 wipes.

Remember to raise the wiper blades off the screen thru all this - wiping a dry screen will scratch it.... cheers. pete

Yeah, my wipers were going as well, and I also replaced the little electric pump.

The contact in the switch is buggered.
