Hi everyone, I am new to the forums... I recently bought a 1991 VN commodore and a few things arn't working....
*1 The horn doesn't work, Basically when the previous owner put in the sports steering wheel apparently he snapped a wire, that goes to the steering wheel, so it won't work, my boyfriend did a "temp fix" with some wire but when I turned the steering wheel it just snapped even though we gave it lots if slack, we can't seem to work out where the original wire would have gone....
*2 my speedo doesn't work all the time, it doesn't work for the first 5-10 minutes, then it starts working fine, then it will stop working for a few mins again, and then once again start working..when this happens the odo doesn't work either..which bugs me a little... the previous owner seems to think it was just a sensor, anyone know what the sensor is called? and how easy it is to change?
*3 The previous owner lowered it by just chopping the front springs, and getting lower rear ones, it is that low every time you go over a speed hump, or over any sort of bump that is a decent size the car hits the bottom of it...anyway I got some stock springs the other day and was going to get the mechanic to put them back in, but he wants $160.00 to do it...and I thought if its an easy job I can do it myself (Well, I can get my boyfriend to do it..what would I need?)
now, my question is has anyone on the forum experienced any of these problems? if so..how did you fix it?
1. not sure about the horn
2. speedo sensor may be stuffed
3. theres a how-to on here or on **************** i think.
Thanks for that, I think thats a bit too advanced for the boyfriend to do..I will just pay the $160.00....heh
BTW, can anyone in sydney recommend anywhere to get windows tinted at a decent price?
phone around would be the best bet for the tint, and try talk the mechanic down or ring around and find a good quote.
Rear springs are a sinch, front are more difficult... Especially without all the tools. Get it done professionally as I doubt your bf has a spring compressor....
The wire for the horn should run through the Boss Kit, it should not need slack. Did your bf solder the wires or not? If soldered properly there should be no issue. It normally connects to a brass ring that sits on the boss kit.
Speedo could be a number of things, maybe something is interrupting the signal or a faulty sensor. I would suggest buying a Gregory's manual and going through it yourself bit by bit. Trial and error sort of thing.
