    ..... 1 grand???
i mean sure if you can acid bath it, crack test, it balance it, hone it match the pistons & rings, shave the heads yourself... and rebalance the crank...
ACL rebuild kits are $780~ that includes pistons, rings, bearings, etc

my local wreckers has complete engines on special for $80... (complete) normally $120... its self serve tho... look round, they're not too expensive

id recomend doing headgaskets, top end seals change the oil, engine mounts, oil filter and rear main seal (those pissy annoying things)

a rebuild will cost you $2500-3500 for a standard rebuild including parts and labour... they'res alot to building a engine and your still going to need a shop to do some of the work (machining)

in my opinion, go find a stocker, buy it and put it in... and pick up a ACL VRS kit and change rear main + engine moutns and your set.. the engines are tough... stick with the same model engine you have.. it makes life easier

From the wreckers i can get a motor S1VN for $500, thats pulled out pressure tested and all that stuff not complete motor though.

I was wondering what a good compretion for a V6, The guy said around 150 160 is good so yeah.

Thanx to all the people who have wrote back and answered my Questions.

yeah that compression is about right 160ish would be your benchmark, as for a motor for $500, try a few other wreckers. I got quoted a couple of hundred for a complete s1 VN motor when i blew my old one up lol. Ended up getting one of my dads mate for $100 though.

Picked the motor up today looks shabby. But it will come up ok. The wreckers want my old motor though. I dont really want to get rid of it to them but i guess i will. I will just strip it cause where is new parts on there make the best of the 2 motors and make a good 1 and chuck it in.

WHAT...no way...did he have a sign up stating this? he can really only ask for your motor if he is selling a reconditioned one.....i don't know how your wreckers work over there, or what the laws are,but i have never heard of this situation down here in tassie

you can get an exchange VN series 1 motor for $3440 and from memory thats a long motor,if you know a qualified mechanic,a carton of smokes or beer and a couple of hundred dollars,he may charge less,or if your that way inclined put it in yourself...the motor and get your mechanic friend to sign it....for warranty purposes
