    Default VN bonnet hinges

    Hey Guy n Gals
now i have an opinion of my own on this, but i would appreciate some input from others, or experiences from others in regards to VN bonnet hinges.now i have a VN calais, bonnet was working perfectly until i got swiped in the right hand rear bumper end,now for the force of impact, the damage only looked cosmetic, but it appears not, since the accident, the exhaust system hits the underbody, something shocking(which has now been fixed and marked down as accident related) i opened the bonnet for the first time since being repaired the other day,and as you can guess what happened after that, when closing bonnet, insurance company is stating that it's not accident related, and yet the bonnet wasn't raised on left hand side and hinge was working perfectly prior to accident, the assesor is trying to tell me,that it is a common fault and that GMH had thousands of warrant jobs on this issue, now as i am in the trade, both mechanical and panel/spray painting,i have only ever had to replace 2 from normal wear and tear, and several from accident related, regardless of where the car was hit...has any one been in a similiar situation or know that it is fact for the hinges to give way just like that, after being fine prior to and accident....thanks in advance for any replies

What happened exactly? O_o did the hinge snap, or just not shut straight?

nothing snapped, just did the usual cracked the windscreen,as i said i have replaced 2 sets from wear and tear(not mine) well not until now,i'd say mine is accident related but the insurance assesor is saying it's not,i have replaced several from accidents,i was hit in the rear with great force, but damage looked superficial,iv'e replaced hinges on VN's that have been hit both front and rear.my bonnet opened and shut perfectly until after the accident...so yeah upon closing bonnet it cracked windscreen....was just wondering if anyone else experienced this due to an impact in their VN

Not me personally, but back when I was searching, I found a VN Exec wagon with a cracked windscreen. Owner said they were hit from behind, and the next time they opened/shut the bonnet the window cracked. Had the windscreen replaced since, and it cracked again.

    Hope that helps

Nah, if I remember, they simply concluded that it was a slight chasis deformation, and never bothered with the hinges. Shame about that, or I might have bought it... it was manual ^^

shame really...it might just of only been the hinges,as VN's don't have a chassis as such, only in the front, but thats only an aid in keeping your front end true, panel gaps, etc,if it was badly bent there, i'm like you wouldn't of touched it.although i have access to a rack to straighten them.
