um anyone that has repainted there vn/vp..
im wanting to get and average quantitiy of paint needed (in Litres)
to repaint JUST the outer part of the car IN THE SAME COLOUR..
um im guessing i only have to rub back the clearcoat..
i need two colours cause its blue over silver and then a good clearcoat all round ive been told a litre of each should do?? maybe 2L of the clear..
prices you paid would be cool to!
Don't blame me, It's that damn percadan..
If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain...
And now a word from our new sponsor.. Percadan? oh crap!
you need to scuff the top coat, removing the clear totally,by the outer part of car,i'm assuming the whole of the exterior of the car?you say you need two colours, how do you mean it's blue over silver....do you mean like a calais....blue above (level with the bumpers)and silver below ? if thats the case(only assuming) 2 litres of silver and 3.5 litres of blue, but it would be cheaper to get 4 litres...price wise...2 litres of silver(acrylic) off the street purchaser in Tassie $80-$90....4 litres of acrylic your looking at $150 +
whole differnt price if your going 2 pak enamel you can nearly double the price, not so much as in the silver...only if my assumption is right,(silver below the top of the bumper level) then you have the cost of primer $42 + for 4 litres..i'd also say you will need 4 litres of clear approx $110+
in a nut shell acrylic is cheaper and if done properly can be just as durable as enamel
PS... better bump the silver up to 3 litres, but once again cheaper to buy 4 litres, thats if your bumper bars are colour coded and going on the assumption of calais type blue up silver bottom
I have sprayed 2 VN's now, 4 litres of colour, 4 litres of clear
IMO. It is always good to have a tad more colour from the mix and store leftovers in a tin 1L or 500ml filled to the top (to stop it going off), in case of any stone chips, scratches or accidents (colour matching can be painful)
absolutely true......although 4 litres should be more than sufficient to do complete exterior, depends on how you put it on,a lot of people go thru more than 4 litres because they bugger up on the thinning ratio.
also be aware,as i have seen some dodgy paintwork especially on bumpers, you need to use a special primer for bumpers, and if it needs nicks or anything there is also special bumper fillers too
yer calais! sorry i assumed you would read my ride.. can i just pint out that the colour of the car is not changing so for the same colour why do i need to prime?? how much more paint would it take to change the colour completely.. thanks guys!

It's totally up to you,but i always prime before painting, just in case of any imperfections cropping up later on....but that can also happen with primering too,you never know you may come accross a stone chip or something that requires feathering out and priming..if you are going to paint the whole car just the one color 4 litres is still sufficient...the reason i said in my earlier post 3 litres,it's actually cheaper if you buy 4 litres of each....blue/silver.unless your changing to a different colour completely as you say you may do,allowing for doors and jams(inside) boot lid under neath and down the boot channel, then theres the engine bay, i'd allow 6-7 litres unless your not going to worry about doing that, but would look rather unusual
are you going to be re-spraying it in 2 pak enamel?...highly recommend priming if you are..putting acrylic straight on top of enamel don't mix...in fact it may bubble
