hi.. i just brought a vn commodore, i got a few questions about em..
there is a strange ticking noise coming out of the engine area the tick speeds up with the revs, what could it be, do i get it fixed or just leave it till the engine blows lol..
umm with the bonnet it has cracked the windscreen ive been told that that is a common problem on vn's do i just adjust the hinges or get new ones cause the old ones are screwed..
umm i have an imbolizer n in the engine bay there is a siren n doesnt seem to work is there any reason for this ive traced the wires they all seem connected. and when i first got it both side intercaters used to flash but now only the drivers side flashes.. but the indercaters work one the left when i use the hazzards..
and the engine bay looks pretty clean a bit to clean but when i look under neath the is oil everywhere what gaskets should i replace..
and any other stuff i should look out for reguarding gettin a roadie.
cheers

"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
im going to try answer as many as i can
the ticking noise could be injectors
the immoboliser's siren could be broken also it may be run off a fuse.
clean ALL the oil and leave it a week, if theres more oil then it should be easier to see where its coming from
We got rep back, yaaay!
Hey dude, heres my few answers.
The ticking noise could be two things:
1. as JD said could be the injectors
2. your lifters might be old and dirty
I have the same problem and it will annoy you at first, but you will get used to it!
Underneath, the oil could either be coming from your rear main seal, or it could be that your sump gasket may need replacing like mine did. Its a real B*tch to fix as you have to raise the motor about 2-3 inces to access all the bolts. Hopefully for you, may be something easier to fix !![]()
I had a real bad ticking noice coming from the rocker left bay number 6cyl.
so i took the rocker cover off and tightened the bolt holding the rockers and it stoped, it ticked fast when you accelerated to.
I can add an idea about the siren. Does it have a key hole in it? Do you have the key? If so, it may just be turned off because they are bloody annoying. The power steering hoses are prone to leaking so tighten all the clamps on the hoses and the back of the pump. But a good start is to clean it all and then have a look in a week.
injectors and your sump gasket.
possibilities.....
ticking.....this is normal for VN V6's,if it's not excessively loud(fuel injectors)
valve train,this includes...valve springs,rockers,lifters.
if auto, listening with a stethoscope on bellhousing to hear if noise is actually coming from there....flexplate
another common fault with the VN's is the balance shaft, put stethoscope at back of valley and listen for rattle
timing chain.....but that can usually only be confined to the front, the noise, but not always
the hinges are common for buggering up,but i believe ,personally from experience, and, i suppose this is debatable, that they bugger up from impact (any kind of hit to the car from another vehicle)you will need to replace it, i wouldn't mind betting it was the L/H/ hinge?
as i'm no auto electrician, only know the basics...has someone attemtpted to break into your vehicle?they may have dis-armed your horn,as for the indicator lights X4 flashing, from experience, but i don't know if this applies for after market alarms,if only 2 indicator lights now only flash, the diode has gone in the alarm control module(if the after market one has one) if not the only other thing i can suggest is pull your steering wheel shroud off(the shroud that covers over your ignition) follow your indicator or accessories wire back and see if any wires have fallen away.(obviously after all simple checks have been performed..like fuses, earths, etc)
as for the oil leaks...check tranny, may only need a nip up,same goes with the engine sump, degrease underneath and when parked after driving place white paper underneath,it could be any gasket from rocker cover to main oil seal(if it's the rear main oil seal gone, many people will tell you that you can do it with engine in car....whilst this is true, not really advisable, you will get a better result with the engine out
yer thanks guys i had a mate come around n take off the rocker covers n take my rockers n those other pin sorta things (im not much of a mechanic but im slowly learning) n the covers into work n clean em up for me the tick is still there n we replaced rocker cover gaskets cause there easy to get to..
i borrowed the trade plate from work n took her down to the car wash n gave her a good old scrub underneath but couldnt reach it all cause the ramps kept slipping n ill keep an eye on the oil n find that oil leak..
i might get my brothers mate hes an auto elect n ill get him to have a bit of a look at the siren i think it could be that key in the siren..
thanks for all your help much apprecate it...
haha the coppers thought they had us at the car wash they drove off n did a u turn so they were heading back towards us n then when we did the u turn that must of seen the tradeplate on the back n left us alone but they gave us a good greasy.. cop that coppers
