umm well i got bored n decided to rip my bumper bars off n i was gonna give em a quick coat of the same colour..

just wondering if i were to give it a quick scuff over n a light sand and feather out a few spots would i need to use plastic primer or should it be right.. i kno at work with new bars they plactic prime but never really taken much notice what they do with second hand one and being a long w/e i figured y not paint em now..

ohh n at work for the old **** heaps ie: vn's n xf's that just have like grey and black bars they just use bumper coat stuff that k&h make.. do you reckon it would be possible to clear over it or will that look pox

give em a good clean with hot soapy water and a scouring pad....best to use plastic primer and fillers for little nick etc, etc.if you don't use the plastic primer in a month or so you will notice the paint may well start to peel away....you might get a bit longer, but it will definately peel away later on

I agree, use a primer. Otherwise the paintwork wont last very long, and like said before, you will notice it begin to lift away.

But, even the quality of primer effects the end result. The better quality of primer, the better the finish.

    Good luck with it.

some people just talk **** about using primers....rub your bars down nwith 800 on a whizzer of get 800 wet and hand rub then scuff with a scotchie...if you rub through to get ur chips out make sure the edges are feathered tight out or they will fry up...depending on what the rub throughs look like tells you wether you should use a plastic primer but if theyre not that bad dont bother your paint wont fall off beacaue its already been painted and you'll scuff it up so it will stick...

not on the feathered bit it won't or back to bare plastic...it will leave a blotch like mark, not straight away, but will surface soon enough....always use plastic primer

You can do it that way, thats fine. But if you want a better quality finish and a longer lasting paint job, do it properly. And when I say longer lasting I mean in a few years time.

If your gonna do it, you may as well take the time to do a good job.

well.. i knocked the top off the bars wit 600 grid wet n i brought this k&h stuff which has plastic prime in with it.. so i gave the rear bar a couple of coats came up **** house wasnt the right finish i think it was me that ****ed it up (im a panel beater not a spray painter) so tomorro ill go up to super cheap if they are open well i hope there open n get some thinner n give it another crack if still no good ill take em to work n get em to paint it.. n that will cost me a slab..

ps if ya looking to do this your self n kno someone in the paint n panel beating industry get them to get you the stuff its much cheaper, it cost me $50 at auto bahn for 1L of the k&h paint, at work we get if for appprox $35.
    so yer.. bordum cost money..
