The pump is in the tank. And the filter is under the drivers side rear in the hump just in front of the diff.

thanks NAAF . ive got a full tank of premium unleaded in there so will i have to drain all that out to get to the pump?
and is it possible to replace it yourself or does a mechanic need to do it?
    thanks for any help here

yep, drain the whole tank if possible.

stick the car on axle stands, rip the drivers side rear wheel off.

stick your head in under there, and find the fuel filter, then trace that back to the tank and theres a big round plate with wires and hoses on it, thats the pump bracket, theres about 8 screws that youve gotta undo, then it pulls out, not sure on the sedans, but the wagon is a weird dogleg shaped thing, thats gotta be rotated jsut right to get it out.

then you can pull the pump off the bracket and swap it for the new one, then reverse above instructions.

i got the missus to turn the ignition on while i got down and listened to the tank to hear if the pump is working and the sound of silence is deafening!!!
ive checked the fuses and they appear to be ok.....could it be something else?

Sometimes it's the pump relay but more often than not its the pump. Can you hear the relay click in under the bonnet when the key is turned on?
