    Default V6 --> V8 Conversion Cost

    How much would it cost to change to a V8 from a V6? And what parts would be required?

    Buy a complete car, that's the only way to do it for a decent price. So say 2 grand for a slightly stacked or rough VN 5 litre and a handfull of weekends worth of swaping stuff over to your car if you take your time

    Then sell off any parts you don't need, (perhaps even the v6 and it's related paraphernalia) and finally sell the shell to easyscrap (or your local equivalent) If you're lucky, a 5L conversion wont cost much at all. Only thing is, it's a big job and you'll need a full set of tools, including an engine hoist, maybe a couple of mates as well for the actual dropping in of the new motor. Real problem there is, you know your current donk is in good nick and has been looked after. A VN V8 has been thrashed. Constantly. That's just about guaranteed. Sure you'd be trading up to more go, but you might be trading down in reliability.

    These days everytime you hear a V8 ripping a burnout in the distance there is a very good chance it's a VN-VS 5 litre :P but luckily they can take a huge amount of abuse

    Yeah damn straight. I think the bottom end is basically unkillable. Valvetrain and ancillaries aren't quite so bulletproof though.

    Also true. Spent around 2 grand on parts and tools for a topend/cooling/ancillary bonanza over summer. Would've been a lot worse in anything other than a domestic. Still put a nice hole in the savings, but it was worth it!

    I would love to drop a V8 in but can't (was just curious as too how much it would cost ) as this car is my daily (once I actually have to start driving anyway, at present work is only a 10min walk away) I happen to prefer the lower fuel consumption of the V6 - even if it's not a LOT lower its still lower. And as you said, my 3.8 is in good nick and isn't gonna be dying any time soon or costing me an arm and a leg in parts

    (that and I would prolly kill myself on the Kuranda or Gillies ranges with a V8 )
