Hey guys, can someone tell me how low can i take my VN before i would have to consider an adjustable panhard rod.
Im not to sure about this stuff but i figure that if the standard rod isnt adjustable and the ride height is altered it would push the diff to one side slightly altering the track.
Is this right, or am i way off?
Steve
yeah pretty much, once you lower the height it puts everything out of wack and the diff goes off centre - usually to the left. i dont think it really matters how much you lower it, it'll just be more noticable (with scrubbing tyres and the like) the more its lowered. but even if it was only lowered a little it would still put the diff out a bit.
basically the lower you go the more it'll cause trouble, but i think a very small change of height - like FE2 sort of equivilent would be ok, the diff will be out, but it wont be too bad.
Quagmire: My fellow Americans, I have not been entirely truthful with you. I did gagoogidy that girl. I gashmoygadied her gaflavity with my googus. And I am sorry.
Do you know if the FE2 panhard rod is different to one on std suspension?
If your on a 15" rim and lower it wont need a panhard rod.. Throw in 17/18+" rims and it will.. Personal Experience right there![]()

a ajustable panhard rod should always be used, once you get to near max compression it will scrub your tyres, with not much load in the car it wont be too bad but yeah, worth getting one
wrong anton1o, it wont scrub on 15s but it will handel like crap as the diff wont be centered, the diff will smash against the exhust then exhust against sway bar, happened to me
You should be able to pick up a good one for around $150, and any old bloke with a hoist and a set of spanners can fit it for youThey'll just have to use something to support the diff, so the tension on the rod is removed, and you can fit the new one.

make sure you buy a "on-car" adjustable one, they have a center knuckle and 2 ends, so you just loosen 2 nuts and turn the knuckle and it makes it shorter or longer to adjust position, then tighten nuts again.
off car has one end with thread solid and other end has a nut welded to it, so to adjust, you have to unbolt the rod off one side and turn it around, its more time consuming with that one.

(note, this ones for a toyota, same thing, different size for a commodore)
and having the car lowered and stock panhard rod, not only allows for scrubbing, but offsets the diff as you know, but this puts extra pressure on the uni's and seals, which in turn allows them to wear quicker.
