    Default Fuel Gauge wrong?

Hey, i have noticed, i filled my 1990 VN calais up to the brim (according to trip computer it had 64 litres :P) and at the moment, ive usd 40.00 litres because i resetted the computer after i refilled, but the fuel gauge is almost empty even though i have around 20 litres of drivable fuel?
im gonna use the Fuel Used function on the trip computer from now on....
    but is that right?
also while talking about fuel, is the fuel filter easy to replace and are they expensive?

    thanks

easy to replace the fuel filter, bit of a tight spot to manouver it but not too bad. not a 100% on the trip computer functions (dont have one) but im guessing u've just reset it, and on next fill up it should reset itself back to normal. should have roughly 15-20lts of usable fuel, but i wouldnt trust it 100%. I generally go off how many kms i've done, pure city driving, pure hwy driving, or a bit of both. i know i can get roughly max 400kms city and max 600kms hwy. good to know if ur gauge sh!ts itself, like mine did

Between $10 and $20 depending on brand. If mine is getting low I know its got 40kms after the fuel light comes on, getting around 450 from a tank, VS V6.

i try not to run it too low, coz the fuel keeps the pump cool, but from the km's i've travelled against how many litres its used u can work out how many kms u get out of a tank

Not_An_Abba_Fan is right with the price range.. if it hasnt been changed, its good to change it every year or 2, depending on its usage.. there is that much crap in fuel these days, its not funny!

I never let mine under 1/4 anyway.

When your driving (spirited driving) around a corner, you can tell when your running low, cause the car will cut out if theres no fuel for the pickup.

My gauge has been playing up lately tho, sometimes the fuel and temp will work, sometimes one or the other, and other times neither.

i wouldn't trust the fuel used display too much as they are not 100% accurate

ive also noticed, when i fill the car up like full, i let the pump click like 4 times....i expect to use about 55-57 litres before i refill.
The thing is according to the trip comupter, it said i had used 44 litres, with 10 litres left in the tank...that only equates to 54 litres?!?! doesnt the vn sedan have 63 litres?
i dunno, i wanna just run the car dry one day too see how many litres the computer comes up with and recalibrate...wired.
i got 310 kms out a supposed full tank?!?!? thats not right and im not even heavy footed?! btw my tires are 36PSI and i use 98 octane premium V-power.
thats why i thought fuel filter..
any feed back would be appreciated..

300 was what i got out of my VL max, and my V6 is better, but the V8 has better economy than both those cars.

I love when people try to say V8s use more fuel, when clearly they don't

not sure if good idea but - the 89 vn used a much larger fuel filter than that spec'd for the 90. Cost $4 more, but its at least 50% bigger diameter and hence a much larger volume. Remember to depressurise before removing. Just pull the pump fuse and run engine till it stops. (same for playing with regulator) - dont get a face full of gas.

i found that when when i give mine a full tank (69ltr for wagon) i reset the trip meter, when its get back down to empty on the gauge usually getting about 500+kms (normal unleaded, very light footed ) it will only take about 55ltr at the bowser, meaning theres about 15ltrs left.

simply wait till it says u have used 40L, then fill up and see if u get 40L back into the tank
