    Default VN SV 3800 Tune

I have just fitted a SV 3800 Memcal tune in to the wagon (thanks to a JC member) AND What a change it has made. After driving the car for over 18 years (I traded a worked 253 VB for the VN) I am stunned at the change.

The car had a electrical meltdown some time a go that took out the ECU along with several other bits. When I replaced the ECU it had a VP memcal in it. The car was down on power and using a lot of fuel. Put the original memcal back in and fuel economy went up and some power was back.

Now I have the SV 3800 tune the car has much more mid range power and will now cherp the 215 tyres with out too much effort.

Well worth the effort to do oh and the money.

I would be interested in getting the SV 3800 tune in mine if it had lean cruise(ive got a VR memcal in mine) and didnt go thru more fuel. Let us know what the economy is like after you have run it for a while. Also where did you get the tune from and how much did it cost? Thanks.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!

I just spend the day driving and testing. 13.6 L/100 Thats several 0-80kms (fastest zone near by). With the old memcal I had to drive very slow to get 14-15 L/100 around town and 10 L/100 on the highway. Need to plan a trip now to get feed back on 5 people + stuff you take on a trip. Last trip to Canberra when overtaking the car would rev but took a long time to get it done. I was holding it FLAT.

It was not looking good for the motor, it didnt use any oil or blow any smoke. A new Memcal saved it!!!

As for where the memcal came from - I'll ask for you.

I just put the same tune in my mates vn.goes nuts now but was horrible in my vp.he just done 400k trip loves it doin 180 in forth put ya foot down a bit clicks straight to third up over 200 pretty quick.got pod filter and free flow exhaust actually made the vn quieter than with the standard nz vn tune in it.driving up the steepest piece of road we allways drive up extra 20kph more than normal and its steep first gear takeoff steep.fuel consuption far better extra quarter of a tank after the same distance driving pretty hard, not worried about fuel consuption hard, tune testing hard.

Second hand Memcals can be found on Ebay and at the wreckers. Price range fron 50 to 120.00. Takes 5 mins to install.

Then you need to get a tune done - or take a chance with an ebay SV 3800 memcal and hope its OK.

My genuine SV3800 gear may be for sale soon, once i decide whether or not to repair the damage from my accident, they are certainly a good tune though, my car has surprised a few people with how quick it actually is

might have to look into this, did a drive to pihia on the weekend in my ute, with a fair bit of gear in the back - struggled to pass a few cars up the hills, sure it was accelerating just slowly, there was a vr wagon right behind me and he didnt have as much trouble

anyone got one they wanna get rid of (nz though)

I have asked about getting the tune from the JC member for other people. I'll see what he says tomorrow.

you will need to fit an o2 sensor as the NZ VN's didn't have em as they have a leaded fuel tune

Just did a small trip of about 20km @ 100kph and got 8.2 L/100. Had a small head wind so could expect better yet. SV 3800 tune is much better on fuel than the standard memcal.

Did a lot more test driving to day and I must say the SV3800 tune is by far the best mod I've done to the car in 18 years. I really gets up n goes now. IMO The SV 3800 is Highly Recommended for VN Commodores. Just do it

Now to see what the HSV 180 tune does for the V8 sedan.

I don't think the sv3800 tune is all that good, well it is but it's barely messurable the time difference it makes over stock but the power of the mind is strong , when you drop a serious tune into the 304 and drop your 1/4 mile by half a second that's when you can really say, now that made a difference

But when you take what I had before (My car was sick with the VP memcal in it) - the SV 3800 is sooo good. And I understand that the SV 3800 can be improved on without question. I now have a stock VN memcal to play with to get some more mumbo out of the 3.8 in the wagon.

And yes I'm looking forward to the new V8 Memcal.

If you want a SV 3800 tune for your VN PM me and I'll let you know who did it for me. You will need to send a memcal to him.

Well I'll need to change the 215/60 retread from the rear drive tyre. It rained today and almost zero traction. Wheel spin like never before. Buggered the fuel economy up.....

Meanwhile I was getting insane forward drive in the rain with slight overspin and snakeing up the highway on the kickdown to 2nd at 70km/h and all the while kicked back in the seat

AND you were driving a v6 with X tune.....

The wife complained about doing wheelies in the LSD V8 today. She claims to have not been trying anything silly. I thing it may have been so long between rain the roads were very slippery.

I'm just interested in how much power that 5 litre of yours has at the moment, will it smoke a tyre taking off at full throttle in a straight line?

It has a LSD that lets one wheel spin - left or right. And it will spin up the 215 firestones without to much effort. At round abouts at take off it can make a cloud of smoke no probs - (thats not engine smoke) Ive been nursing the diff along a bit so not too much in the flat out take offs department.

And from the gunge that I have removed from the rocker covers I suspect the engine has done 200 250 thousand kms. (purchased as a 129,000kms car with books several years ago for 3,500 - had a bent diff housing and the front strut was back a bit.) All fixed without too much fuss and the car handles very well now.
