Default Installing a Calais Interior Light?

I've scored myself a calais interior light for $10. Do I need any form of wiring with it out of the Calais it came from?? Or is it a straight swap over pretty much?

I pressume the extra wire would be for the map lights?? I doubt I'll have it done by Saturday. I have to wait for Sam (workmate) to pull it out of his Calais he's wrecking.

I forgot to ask, he hasn't actually got the light out yet, but does he need to get any wires out with it and leave them on it?

just leave the wires connected to it. should be one or two orange wires that run into the roof. get as much of that wiring as you can i guess

When I did my VN with a Calais light I took the whole light, wire and plug. Took some wire and poked it down the pillar - then tied the light wire to it and pulled it back through. Took about and hour all up. (Hood lining out of course)

Maybe it is out of a VQ? I cant remember. One I have was out of a VN Berlina. And it has the Ford logo on it - just went and had a look see. Oops.
I planed to put it in the wagon when I do the hood lining but painted it satin Black ready for the interier upgrade to the VN V8 sedan - I have the dash painted Black too, looks wicked. Just gotta put it in the car now..

The light was easy compaied to the vents for the dash - complete pull apart, clean, rubdown and prime N paint. Also have stato grab handles to do as well. I wanted to go a bone colour but its not available except if I buy 1 litre.

So black it is. Good stuff that vynal paint. The center consol came up a treat - just have to wire in the extra lights and power socket.

Just another question, do I have to any modification to the roof lining? Or will it fit straight in?

You will need to cut a bit of the cardboard out for the bigger light. Should be able to see the size by the new light size. Its not much and is not that hard to do.

Well, I've got it in, and I didn't cut anything. I got was too impatient to wait for a reply, so I went outside to figure it out the hard way.

But it all fits and looks fine, even though I didn't cut anything, but I do have a slight gap where it doesn't quite sit up against the roof properly at the front. Would this be why?

But the gap isn't huge, and I can really only notice it, coz I know it's there.

i just got myself one also and noticed exactly the same problem that you have described.
all you do it unscrew it and press it up against the roof lining so it leaves marks indicating where you need to cut. there isnt much that needs to come off.
once you do this it will look heaps better trust me

I'm not that worried about it. It's only the slightest gap. You wouldn't even notice it. I was just curious.

On the back of the hood lining (cardbaord side) it's marked as a cut out.

    hi, just bought a calais light for my vs, havent got it yet though.from reading this i was just hopeing that someone could confirm what it is i have to do;
    1. cut out some of the cardboard.
    2. run another wire for the map lights, is it a positive wire? and where does it connect?
do i have to take the roof lining out?

To replace the standard light you dont need to remove the lining. As stated in the other thread its only one wire - one of the orange/white one that supplies power to the map/spot lights. I just cut away the insulation off 1 wire andwrapped a small length of wire around it to test it. screw it back up and that will show/leave a mark on the lining for you to cut out. also will show if you have the power wire.
