Default Heater tap - anyone know?

I got a new heater tap for my VN Calais as my heater is dud and all i can put it down to is the tap..
reason being if i turn the dial to hot, it gets light warm air out of the vents on recirc but cold air on fresh etc...
If i look under the bonnet the vac switch isnt moving at all when you turn the dial, and even holding the gate up doesnt change the temp inside the car...
I did put a fair amount of stop leak in when my inlet manifold buggered up so im guessing its blocked it up along the way and its also been leaking from that fitting too!

SO anyway, I have a new tap but what threw me off is that when i asked for a VN commodore one the guy cam out with a straight through fitting with th vac piece attached.

The one in my car is a 4 fitting one. The closest he had there was from a falcon!?

it looks the same as whats there now... so is that normal?

its like 2 F's back to back but one upside down.

Anyway, is there any special way these should go together, does someone have a diagram so i can make sure the current one is attached right.

    Thanks!

(I also have a whole load of flush treatment so i can clean all the crap out!)

the heater tap in the commodores vn onwards is the same as the ef falcon onwards found this out while working for a ford dealer as we couldnt get one for a vs at the time for mine so i checked the falcon ones and found they were the same part in a different branded box

Well, good news, i got dirty and replaced the heater tap, and oil and filter, and flush and fill coolant.

    Car runs sweet now.
Heater is nice and warm, and works - even though its a ford part.

Oil is fresh penzzoil 15-40 so sits nicely in the engine.

Car still seems to run warm, but with the fan fixed now, it never goes above half, but does seem to hover there quite often...

    Oh well..

yeah i have a (s2?) vp and just did the heater tap on it, the first one autobarn brought out had 4 pipe outlets, the other one which is marked v8 (mine's a 6) was the straight through, which was what i needed.

even after the swap, my heater knob in the cabin doesn't change the heat at all, still seems always on. i checked the metal rod that connects to the white plastic arm, but that's connected, and the button is being pressed.

    did you do anything else?

Im not 100% sure, but i suspect that the heater works that when you turn the knob to cold it applies vaccuum to the tap to stop the heater valve from opening and keeps cold, but when you turn to hot it releases that vaccuum and allows the pressure of the water to flow through the heater, so if you have a split hose between the engine - heater box - tap then you will end up with heat...

I could be wrong, like i said its just what im guessing, because when you adjust heater off or on, i cant notice any movement in the actuator on the tap, so i dont think that it forces it open.

yeah it's def a vacuum issue, cos i can't see the valve doing anything, but it's a new one and i know it works. i think there's some mechanism between the metal rod/plastic arm and button part and the hose/vacuum line to the valve, but i'm not 100% on where it is and how to get to it.

anyone have any knowledge on this?
