    Default Removing Cat on V6

My car is a VN V6 with a V8throttle body/cold air intake/exhaust...blah blah, me mechanic has advised that he can make me up a straight through pipe as a direct replacment for my catalytic converter. Chances are my cat is stuffed as its the original item. I realise this is illegal but isnt everything?? anyways, does this have any effect on power/tourque and does it have any negative effects on the engine?

    thanks guys

    Default Remove Cat?

I Removed the contents of mine this week! Other than making the exhaust sound tinny, it had no effect on power etc. But that's in a VY.

the cat is no restriction to exhaust flow, no gains from removing it, other than has already been pointed out the possible weight reduction in the wallet area.

Knocking out the inside of the cat actually restricts exhaust flow. A straight thru pipe would flow the same as the cat so you would be wasting your money by getting a pipe made up for it, and taking an unnessesary(sp)risk of a fine by taking it out.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!

So just because "others" do something stupid, that makes it alright for you to help as well??? Get a clue fool. Do a bit of research as to what comes out the exhaust of a car when your cat is not installed. Ever wondered why the fine is so high???

If you are not looking for criticism then why do stupid and illegal things and then advertise it to the world??? If you did it then there is loads of guilt where you are.

As another idea, if it is buggered then why not get a new one or get a good 2nd hand one and whack that on???

i couldnt believe your mechaninc said that, they can get in alot of trouble for doing it but anyways just go out and find yourself a cheap ls1 cat, prob wont do anything to power or anything but they are apparently better then a high flow cat?? thats what i read somewhere anyway

Your mechanic is a dick for even mentioning it. You stand to gain absolutely nothing by doing this "mod"

an ls1 cat has more monolith inside it, its cheaper than a highflow but it isnt as good, i tried them for a while and had alot of problems with it scraping on the ground due to the shape of it

about this 10k fine, how can they issue it when you could go out and buy a car with a hollow cat and have no idea it is hollow, then get done for it. plus i have never heard of anyone ever being fined 10g for a hollowed cat, has anyone else? is it a myth law to scare people or is it rarely enforced.

If you want to be a boy in the bubble in 20years time with your own oxygen pump do so, but don't **** it for the rest of us, The exhaust emmisions if every car was 'cat'`less in 2 years we'd have no O-zone layer.

Do what you like, You **** up it's your own fault.

    Cheers

Its a 10,000 maximum fine. First offence is a warning, second offence is a small fine, 3rd offence is the 10,000 fine.

as far and the police and epa are conserned its the owners responisblity to know or find out wat is dont to there car and its the owners bad luck if they get done...

i know a couple of people who got done but not to the 10g extreme

and its realy not worth the fines and trips to the epa to get emmisions tests done
