Default How far can you lower a VN (Wagon)

I want to know the lowest you can go on a VN without it being too much of an issue. being legal is not a concern.

    anyone got any pics?

Interested in wagons in particular, but sedans ok too.

my vn wagon currently sits on kings ultralows all round(front is a bit higher due to nolathane strut tops, rubbers will drop it 1-2cm more)

dont mind the mass of pics, im just enjoying it before it goes back to stock form for dad(bar superlows ) and everything goes to the vp

Hakhawk is your man to talk to

im sitting on Superlow fronts and ultra low rears and it didnt pass roadworthy at that high, exhust Y peice cleared 95mm, he told me to bash it with a hammer :P

i dont get pulled up EVER on height (got a majour defection for tyres and i deserved it)

i like the height of my car, its not Gangsta, like lowest spring you can get cut in half but atleast it dosnt handel like a trampoline on wheels, the lower you go the more suspension you need to change, just sacking it will make it handle worse, FE2 has a completely diffrent suspension setup

they'res things to consider like panhard rod, control arms, steering rack, sway bars, bearing plates, camber of wheels... shorter shocks for rear to tap springs

DEFINATLY talk to hakhawk (pm him)

EDIT: ya bastard hakhawk :P lol

haha, looking at the pics, and its gonna be sad to see it sitting so high when the suspension goes in the vp.

but, my vp has rubber adjustable tops, so the front will drop more, yay!!

    i run:

    kings sedan ultras all round
monroe sensatrack strut inserts up front(id recommend just normal gt gas style inserts, i got the sensatracks for cheap and was only on low springs at the time, might as well use them til they die)
monroe gt gas short shocks on rear, springs dont fall out when jacked up
superpro(i think, blue one) on car adjustable panhard rod.

it just scrapes my driveway with me in car, more so with more people or weight. scrapes big speedhumps round shopping centres, hasnt attracted police attention at all(only me speeding does that ). it does hit the bumpstops on rough roads, hard bumps, etc. and the diff has hit the floor a few times dad said.

otherwise, it drives nice, handles well, not floaty, i like it!!

    really? that sucks.

in vic, its either 100mm from ground, but still must maintain 2/3 stock suspension travel, so stuff all really. then theres the eyebrow height, which is 500mm from ground to headlight or something.

but hes not fussed on how legal it is, so lets just post pics of vn wagons dumped that still drive alright, like mine

Thats ridiculous mate as its FAR from the truth. Their are set eye heights in SA, not just the 100mm rule. Ring transport SA for the eye height but front should be 330mm I think as that is the height for sedan (ultralows are legal under that height) and 310mm is about it for rear (Superlows get you legal for this height).

ADR's are Australian Design Rules, i.e. not restricted to state. So your statement does not make any sense anyway as ADR's and their implications are relevant to all states, not just one.

yep.. my bad.. i saw the document on the magna forums.... its a transport sa one.. but i just looked up the new one and you are correct.. possibly the extract on the magna forums isnt how it was originaly written or someone just perceived it as that... here is the extract from the transport sa guidelines

When lowering a vehicle body, either front or rear, the limiting factor is the clearance between the rubber bump
stop and the corresponding metal stop. This dimension must not be reduced by more than one third of that
    specified by the manufacturer.
Transport SA has a list of acceptable suspension and eyebrow heights (the measurement from the centre of the
wheel vertically upward to the edge of the mudguard) for most passenger vehicles and can be contacted to
verify if the ride height of a vehicle is within acceptable limits.

i gotta get my suspension looked at soon, there's not too much bounce in it when you push it down and let go, but since i did a heavy boot install and put in new cats up front i've noticed some heinous ground knockage.

also ages ago at service they told me one of my rear control arm bushes was on the way out, can these be done by me, or is it worth getting it all done at once?

whats that? superlows on the rear?

must just be the offset of the rims, mine only ever scraped on the outside of guard, first time they got put on, had to fold guard up, and now they dont scrape or rub on anything.

    car looks good too mate

did you fit a ajustable panhard rod? probbly scrubbing one side on the guard, btw did you roll your guards? with 17s they do scrub if you dont and ESPECIALLY if the diff is off center due to stock panhard rod

Hakhawk needs to attack his plastic sump guard/stone deflector. Looks silly in your pics lawl. I just got a knife and heated it on a flame then cut the front flap off, went through like butter. Looks 100% better then.

yeh, i think the vp doesnt have one anyway, so the vn can keep its one, unless dad wants it gone, but i doubt it.

That is there for a reason. It creates drag under the car sucking the hot air from the engine bay. Taking it off will increase your engine bay temp also affecting the coolant temp.
