ok so my warning light has just started comming on after about 30 seconds of starting the car...
it has happend since we had to jump start the car...
but i am wondering if any of these problems would cause this..
thermo fan not turning on at all
frying the chip in the computer from a bad jumpstart
the alternator has a whine even when the car is turned off (a short mabey even though it charges on when on)
the blower fan not working at all
car still drives ok and i have done about 500 kms since it started showing up
I'd be guessing...
Code 53 - System Over-Voltage which means Alternator produced > 17.1 Volts for more than 2 seconds
Either that or Code 55 - ECM - Check ECM Grounds or excessive input voltage which could have been caused by an incorrect jumpstart I guess.
will check for a code today...
after we connected the battery to jumpstart the car it wouldnt start untill we reset the ecu.. hence me thinking a dead ecu and its just running in limp
your going to have to reset it again.....did you use jumper leads with a surge protector in the jump lines?
after 1/2 hr disconnected and then when you reconnect, and the light doesn't come on and car starts, all should be good, but if it does the whole episode over again, then it's time to do an error code test
yep time for a code test!!! yay.!!!! we used normal 1920's era jumper leads....
You are meant to rev it for 10 seconds at 3000-3500rpm to reset the IAC valve. It will reset itself eventually, but you might as well do it properly the first time. Its reccomended by Holden, the gregories manual and just about any mechanic you'll come across... And theres a reason why.
even though GMH state that...it's not the correct way to do it,would you rev your motor 3000-3500 RPM cold....i think not.yes the computer will reset itself as you say, thats why there is no need to rev it to that rev range
as for any mechanic telling you that...also i think not....all the modern day mechanics will sure...but not the old school ones like me,not that it worries you or anyone else but i'm a mechanic of 25 years
Code 12 - System Pass (OK)
apparently my system is ok
cant figure out why the enging light is on after about 30 seconds then.. mabey its time for a new ecu.. or at least a test one
Code 15 - Coolant temperature Sensor - Voltage Too High
i think i am on crack.. sleep cracking i guess...
i forgot i d/c the battery so the ecu would have reset.. i ran the car for 1 min and checked again and this is what i got.. i am guessing thats why i dont have a thermo fan that turns on anymore...... grrrr argh
my engine light comes on too.. after like 2 mins of turning it on it comes on for about 10 seconds n goes off again and then later on it comes on again for 10 seconds or so.. and gos off.. can some one refer me to a page or give me a few hints as to y this happens
LIFES A GARDEN, DIG IT..lol
for people who are unsure as to why the engine light comes on, every time it comes on, it is just recording a fault in the system, so when ever it comes on you should check the fault codes to see what it was.
silly question I know but I cant figure out how to check the fault codes in my VN SS...i read something about a plug with the VR/VS that u bridge 2 pins with a clip but my VN doesnt have that.. can anyone help pls? cheers
Your VN does have it, its behind the kick panel near the ECU.
cheers mate, will suss it out today
