is it on gas at all? or your injectors may be leaking fuel into the cylinders when the car is off maybe?

yeah i think if the battery is near death then the driain on it will pull all voltage and reset the ecu.. however this is only a theroy and it would be great to hear from someone who knows...

to reset the ecu you take the battery off for 5 mins, then (different people say different things) start er up and rev to 3 thou for 20 or 30 secs.

so the battery could be a culprit. what petrol were you running when it happend?

sounds like your just running a bit rich. also depends if you were revving it while it started. Usually a little bit of fuel is pushed through your exhaust and it ignites. Not really a bad thing but if it keeps doing it either flush your injectors or get a new set...
