those books buy hugh macinness are great books. i have a couple of them. lots and lots of info. BUT very old school.
in the book it does say stuff about BOV's. but not modern day ones. back in the old day they did use BOV's instead of wastegate. in other words it was an exhaust BOV. completely different to an intake BOV.
samuel's, you have got a little confused the each type of bov by the sounds of things..
the exhaust bov's similar to a wastegate, except when they got to say 10 psi they just opened. so the boost was not very stable. that is why they went to wastegates. so we could all have nice and steady boost.
an intake bov is only for venting the air for when the throttle is closed. then the air has somewhere to go rather than staying in the intake and slowing the turbo down and/or damaging the turbo. an intake bov like paradox's has nothing to do with exhaust and has nothing to do with the boost pressure. if an intake bov open when the throttle is open it is not adjusted right and should be adjusted tighter, so it only goes off when the throttle is closed.
IF an intake bov was designed to meter boost, it wouldn't have a hose going from the end of the bov to the intake.
and samuel's. if you done run an intake bov you will not damage the motor. only maybe the turbo after a while and i know for sure that a vl turbo would not have an exhaust bov on it. i have never ever seen one. only read it in the books you have quoted..
