    Question V6 Best Oils/Fliuds

Hey my car has done a Centre rear bearing and i am putting another VN-V6 motor in my car in a week. I was wondering what type of oils/fluid should i use to run it in right cause its been sitting for a while and its got a ACL VRS kit put on it and all seals/gaskets ready to go in.

Just use a good 20W/50 oil like Caltex, Penzoil ect (DONT USE CASTROL) lol....

& after a 1000kms change the oil & filter again....

How many times must this question be asked....searching will find what you are looking for. Everyone will give you a different answer too. There are no 'best' fluids and oils to use. While some are better than others, use the best you can afford. As for steering clear of Castrol, that used to be true but since they brought out GTX2 it hasn't been that bad. As long as the oil you use has the correct viscosity and s rating it will be fine.

I use Castrol Magnatec!! Good general oil, Good Price!!
I give the VY a Fairly Firm drive on most occasions, so I change mine with a filter at every 5000km!!

you get what you pay for. If the engine has low kms on it then run something like 'penrite sin' (one of the best oils i've used) or just a castrol oil would be fine if you got high kms

i don't care what anyone says about castrol,iv'e used it for 25 years,my father used it in his 40 years of service in the mechanical industry....,but i don't force anyone to use it,like many posters here have stated,it comes down to personal preferences,on other brands,i don't belive in"what you can afford" because as the old saying goes, if you can't afford the correct oil for your car,or to correctly maintain it,you can't afford to own a car....

Oil is cheap these days, what my 'what you can afford' comment was based on some people recommending a $100 synthetic oil. In other threads people say these oils are the best but thats not necessarily true. You will get a decent oil for around $20 for 5 litres, you don't need to spend $50-$100 on oil for it to be good. I've been using Shell Helix for the 4 years I've had my VS only because it was on special the first time I bought it, before that it was Valvoline XLD Premium in my previous car.

no i understood what you was saying,my comment was only just a passing one,as i agreed on your post...how many times must this be asked....
"cringes" valvoline XLD...,cheap line of oil, repco have that oil prepared for them(by valvoline) and then put into a red plastic container with a repco sticker on it
iv'e had bad experiences with valvoline...but anyrate,as we said personal preferences

It is always the same old thing i dont know if you need to have that attituide towards other members.

Why do people always just ask questions without having a quick search on the forums to see what has been talked about before hand.

    not really well said,

how can you reccomend a oil without any details on the engine? has everyone gone spastic or something?

how many k's has it done? should be the FIRST question asked

VRS kit is good, id do the valve springs aswell if i were you, i cut 0.5 seconds off my 1/4 time just with new valve springs (crow cam ones) and the VRS kit
    ran alot better aswell..

btw i work for Shell (headoffice) i dont see anything wrong with their oils? sure its not my first choice but i think most of you imagine things like... like 91RON at BP is "better fuel" than 91RON at Shell... it all comes from the same terminal from the same refinary.......

persoanlly i run a 15W-50 %100 synthetic on mine because of the turbo

till you start addind ethanol without telling anyone

as the old saying goes oils aint oils...but you do make a valid point with K's on an engine...
however every oil company have similar oils...ratings..viscosity,but what they fail to tell us is what else is in it,how much detergent they put in it,some put to much in,hence why i don't like a certain oil...

I think the motor has between 180-220. i was told to put in thick oil in it. like a 20 50 or penrite 15w60 5Lt. Sorry if i offended people but i thought there was a difference cause i am putting a motor in that hasnt been going 4 some time and i want it to all go to plan.

Well for starters Unless its fully rebuilt i wouldnt use anything less that 20w/50....

A VRS kit is just seals and gaskets its wont make ur car go better unless u got a leak any of the major gaskets....

And fully synthetic oils dont really make a difference unless u have been using them scince the engine was new or fully rebuilt....

As for the fuel i use Wollies normal unleaded and i get better fuel economey & power out of that than anything else....

& cos u work at shell tell me why V-power is so ****....

& also i ran 15w/40 semi-synthetic diesel oil in my old Commodore after the engine rebuild and it was the best oil i ever used in the car & it was the cleanest engine i ever pulled down....
