Default Help! My VN is dying

    Hi guys,
There is a problem with my 1989 vn calais and is is really starting to scare me.
Last week while i was driving my car it all of a sudden started to be really rough and jerky. Now it happens all the time. It is not smooth at all and you can hear it when you rev that it is all broken up. Sometimes it gets so bad that the whole car just shudders violently. The more i rev the worse it is. I recenty changed the fuel pump, filter and injectors so it couldnt be those.
Does anyone know what it could be? If anyone wants me to be more specific just ask. Thankyou.

is it popping /back firing? you have the correct calibrated injectors.
i'd be looking at the spark/ignition before thinking of a more serious cause you have described

nah it isnt back firing. The best way to decribe it is the engine isnt getting enough fuel so it is choking trying to stay alive. Im not saying thats the problem but its just how it feels.

yeah could well be...but why is the question as you have asked...OK you have put in new fuel pump, were the injectors your original ones or, reconditioned ones or even just second hand ones, and are they for that motor....sounds silly i know, but has happened, obviously fuel filter has been put on the right way.can you hear the fuel pump whirring when you first turn the ignition on,just before firing it up?

I can hear the fuel pump when i turn the accesories on, before i start the engine. And the injectors etc were all put in buy a licenced mechanic, so i doubt they are wrong.

OK....so he would of checked fuel pressure, well he should of done,so if he did his job correctly, the fuel side of things should be all good, unless, because of new/reconditioned injectors, being restored to perfect working condition/specifications it has put a strain on the untouched, aged fuel regulator....so i would be moving onto spark if all the fuel side of things have been checked and sorted

ignition system is a known issue. open up the coils and check the resin in the DFI module below. if it's a bit molten looking then it's toast. it could still be toast anyway.

another possibility is the ECU, mine went. you need to get that tested to tell for sure.

only way you can calibrate injectors is to edit the binary file in the ecu, its not possible manually.... its injected remember?

sounds like you have a coil pack issue there son..
check your coil pack ground (braided line that goes to the chassis near the airbox)

definatly a spark issue not fuel system

hahahahahahahahahaha..... i know your pain, turbo's melt things!

are you down on power? or just making funny nosies??? or both!
    airfilters definatly worth checking out

are you using original coils???? the Series 1 VN v6 used the single moduel, the series 2 used the tripple coil system (i have one fitted to mine)
its common for the DFI modeul to go, considering its bolted to the engine the soldier joints just dont hold up with the vibrations over the years (borrow someones coil packs to test)

does it just shake or can you feel the engine playing funny buggers?
they get to this age and the original engine mounts are as flat as road kill and have big cracks in them with leaking fluid...
