depends on what level of service you are asking for,for all of this to be done...
and yes it's by far cheaper to do it yourself if your handy with mechanicals

once again it's all on the level of service and pricing of the service, basic service is just oil,oil filter, fuel filter, plugs, check all fluid levels, clean or replace air filter, inspect brakes, tyres and basic tune and some crowds put injector cleaner in fuel tank...the price range for this service is $80.00-$120.00
if you aren't using GMH service centre, and the mechanical service that you will be taking your car to is reputable, they adhere to GMH's service notices,I.E most cars reccomended coolant change is every 2 years, gearbox and diff oils are about the same,as is the brake fluid,so if none of this has been done to your car in the last 2-3 years the level of service your car will require, will be quite expensive up to $350.00 +( including labour)

i forgot to add, depending on the mechanic, they would stick the lap top in,and just see whats going on with your tune,8 times out of ten you will get a crowd saying that they picked something up in diagnostics,in the hope of squeezing more money out of you.....so if you can get a second opinion for nothing,it pays to do so.although this kind of set up is pretty well regulated now, ripping people off,it's been on all the current affair shows...

Basic service isnt all that mate. Its oil and filter, then they check other fluid levels and top them up.

coolant and most fluid changes can be totally done at home (or a mates place to save yourself cleaning up after)

most of the instructions you'll need are in howto

    coolant/thermostat

    fuel filter

    oil and filter change

most of these go into awesome detail and have product and tool listings, it's dirt cheap and a good way to learn about how to do trickier stuff later.

Refrain from naming and shaming businesses in here, if you wish to slander a company, do it in private.

On a brand new engine you could probably get away with it. Some people swear by thin oils as a performance enhancer. Given the miniscule possible benefit isn't really worth it, you might as well just use the good old 20W50. Can't go wrong.

That request isn't referring to you. Posts have been deleted from this thread which did name businesses.

Off the topic a bit, servicing the diff, I have checked Gregories and there is no service interval, I have never changed the oil in it and the car is 220k.

every 2 years is the recommended change interval.

Thanks for the advice, is it easy to drain and refill yourself. I haven't touched that part of the car, gearbox is a pain to service.

to drain, remove the bolt on the bottom in the centre of the cover plate, while it is draining remove the plug halfway up the cover plate, once it has drained most of the oil, flush a little bit of your new fluid through the filler hole and let it drain,

to fill, replace the plug at the bottom of the diff, and start filling at the top, once the oil starts coming out the filler hole allow it to stabilize and replace the plug

should take around 1.7 litre of oil

yes it will go wrong, new 'modern engines' like the alloytec need a low viscosity oil and needs to be a synthetic based or semi-synthetic because a mineral oil will appantly sludge over some internals and cause expensive damage
