ive put my problem down to my alternator.(flickering lights) it only does it when the air con is off, but if i put it on headlights stop flickering, so im 99% sure its the alternator, where can i get a new alternator to suit my vp or one of them fixxer sets that you replace your self?
you can get exchange ones from any auto electrician,or if your good with auto electricals go to an automotive auto electricians parts supplier.
not saying your wrong in the diagnosis, but flickering stops when you turn air con on...not shorts /open circuits any where, but then again i suppose the air con is drawing power away from your lights huh?
have you hooked up a multimeter to the battery leads while the car is running??? cos to me if the charge light was on then the symptoms would of been the opposite of what you described... could just be that you need a regulator... they are like $60 and about 10 minutes to fit its worth checking out before you go ahead and replace the whole unit
least if u replace it all youll have a peace of mind![]()

the reason i think its my alternator is because everything runs better when the air con is on. like the car idling normally its a bit rough, turn the air con on the revs pickup a little bit and it runs so smooth. so i think my bushes are worn so when the engine runs a little faster there sort of working properly. so is it easier to get a rectifier set or just replace the whole thing?
i been told my alternator is playing up, cause i just bought a new battery and its dying every 2 days or so, and ive got nothing draining the battery, only things ive got is speakers and subs, but their hooked up to the cd player. So im buying a new alternator and installing tommorrow so ill let ya's know how it goes.

i finally found my multimeter. so i put on my battery without engine running 12.4v, put it on with the car running, 14.8v, put it on with the aircon on while the car is running 14.5v, i just don't understand what it could be if its not my alternator.
how do i test just the regulator? how hard is it to install a new one?
id say thats all it is, now to find where to get a new regulator. no wiring? just screw in ?
G'day all
The reason things settle down when you turn on the aircon could be because the aircon draws some of the output from the alt,the other thing to check is the sense wire at the battery, small red wire on the positive post, the other thing to do is to check the output terminal on the alt.
One other thing for EVERY ONE to check is to remove the alt from the engine turn it up so as you can read the numbers on the regulator,if it ends in 016 REPLACE IT ASAP,they have some very bad/expensive habits
