    Default Milky Oil

HI, I have reading these forums for ages, and have just developed a problem with my VN, so I thought Id ask for some advise..

I checked the oil in my daily driver VN Series 2 V6 yesterday. the oil had gone a milky white colour. Was also a froth under the oil cap.
    wats got me stumped is;
The car otherwise runs fine, no misses, no overheating, no nothing
Doesnt seem to have used to much coolant (is down a bit)
    No steam out the exhaust
No oil in the coolant or bubbles in the radiator
I drove it for 200 kms before checking the oil. I didnt notice it overheat or lose power in any way.

Is it a simple blown Headgasket? I would have thought it to be at least running up to crap!
Could the coolant be entering from somewhere else???

    Cheers
    Dave

You are right that milky oil would be from water / coolant getting into the oil. It might be just a head gasket leaking coolant to the oil and not to a cylinder.
Best thing to try would be getting your cooling system pressure tested. Or change the oil and keep an eye on the coolant. For a quick fix you could try some of those stop leak products you put in your coolant or oil.

Stop leaks are only a band aid effect. If the car is running fine it could be just an intake manifold gasket. Removing the heads is not that much extra work so it would pay to get them off and have a look. Get a top end gasket set and replace them all. Worse case scenario is the head has corroded through from an oil gallery to a water jacket.

yep, do that. definitly get it sorted though before you do some real damage. i wouldn't bother with the stop leak crap

do you use valvoline engine oil? this is why i don't like valvoline?
sounds like a head gasket...you will get the occasional car that won't miss a beat with a blown head gasket, you could have a crack somewhere and it's only small and only little bits of water getting in at a time

If Valvoline is good enough for John Laws then it's good enough for me....Valvoline, know what I mean.

I've never had an issue with Valvoline, like I said I only changed to the Shell cos it was like $17.90 for 6 litres at the time. I use the yellow helix, not the crappy multigrade red one.

ahhh ..do you know how much john laws was paid to promote valvoline ? he doesn't even use valvoline, from memory when this issue was raised all these years ago, i think...he uses(ed) castrol.
i have had on average 2 out of every 5 cars over the years, using valvoline, their oil had emulsified, leading the owner into thinking they had a blown head gasket,we eliminated blown head gasket, customer was happy with just trying an oil change first....bingo no more emulsified oil...watery looking oil.

I use Castrol GTX 2, was changed only a few weeks back.
Ill pull the manifold off and check that first. I just drove it around the block, went like a charm. Did use a drop of water though...
Im hoping its only an inlet gasket! not really in the mood for pulling heads, crack testing and rah rah rah....!
On the other hand, my EH has done an oil pump so im not having a good run..

maybe only minor, it probably didn't even get upto operating temp going around the block etc. if your lucky it's only and intake manifold gasket problem. maybe try tightning all the intake manifold bolts first.
