    Default electric antenna

ok, soon to upgrade my h/u, my antenna mast is broken and i was thinkin why not put a electric one in so it goes up and down with the radio like the vt's. i already have the switch block that has the buttons for manual controls but im pretty sure i dont have an electric antenna (its an exec fitted with factory cruise control, hence then switch block) . should i wire it it to the manual switches or have it automatic? secondly is how hard is it to wire up, im pretty good with these things but if i doesnt have existing wiring it might get tricky especially with the using manual controls, i would assume they hade a module of some sort? any info would be great, thanks.

If you dont have existing wiring, just connect it straight to the headunit so its only up when the radio is on, and down when its off. Then no module hassles either.

are u serious, that easy so the ant remote wire hooks straight up to the motor and then earth it out somewhere? what if i want to hook it upto the switches and there isnt existing wiring?

i starting have doubts if that will work. does the electric motor need constant 12v, a signal wire(h/u) and earth, so whenever the signal wire is on it goes up and when no signal is present it goes down. but that wouldnt justify how the factory one is set up with the manual conrtols... any ideas

The factory ones are wired to a module, which moves the antenna up when the radio is on, down when its off. But it also allows for control of the aerial by the buttons. You can put the aerial up or down even with the radio off, and you can choose how high/low you want the aerial to sit... However wiring one straight to the headunit means its either all, or nothing.

The factory modules tend to be rather defective and is why most automative aerials dont work, and they are not compatible with most aftermarket aerials (even though they state VN/VP/VR/VS they dont work with VN modules). Aerpro being an example of one of these brands.

Because... Radio on... Sends positive signal... Aerial goes up... Radio off.... no positive signal... Aerial comes down.

If the car is off, so is the radio.

so there would be another constant 12v wire going to it? giving it the power to go up and down, the h/u just provides the signal, otherwise what gives it power to go down when you turn it off?

    ooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyy.....

The antenna will have 4 wires:

    1. Signal
    2. 12V+ Switched
    3. Earth(maybe not.)
    4. Signal 2(wire to te radio antenna lead)

When the car is put to 'acc' both the radio and antenna recieve 12V, when off, either get neither.

When the radio is on radio(with acc on obviosuly) the areal gets a signal from the radio (+12V most likley) the areal then moves up...

When the radio is switch to CD or it is turned off all together or keys are taken off acc to off... 12V signal wire stops being sent to areal, areal goes down.

well unless you got standard electric antenna fitted you need an aftermarket h/u which will have a signal wire for a electric antenna. and wire it like azkwazere said just above. like he said

12v switched (yellow wire) - back of h/u
remote signal (varies on the h/u)
    and earth it somewhere

then just hook up the antenna cable and presto you should have an electric antenna.
    Power is measured in DECIBEL
