Had a couple of posts before relating to this problem but they involved different parts of the car so I am now looking at a different scenario.
When started, the car will run rough but idling the car at around 1100RPM, the engine shaking disappears but when put into gear it almost wants to stall (Also when stabbed to 4000RPM, a backfire / pop can be heard from the engine bay). I'm now thinking that it could be dirty injectors because I checked the fuel rail and there was plenty of fuel there. I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator which fixed the stalling when revving it to 4000RPM and letting it drop back to idle, but after leaving it for a day it now stalls![]()
Bit of an update..Ran some injector cleaner through the fuel but it did not seem to do anything.. When putting into gear, the revs drop to around 3-350RPM..
my 5 litre done pretty much the same thing i cleaned my injectors and fuel tank and blew out the lines and cleaned the throttle body and now runs better then when i first bought it
injector might be leaking. you get the same symptoms from a leaking injector as a blocked one i believe. correct me if im wrong o' course![]()
I know my beast used to run rough so I got under the car and changed fuel filter & I also popped bonnet and sprayed some carbie cleaner inside the throttle body ... changed air filter .. put new spark plugs , then adjusted kickdown cable then drove to servo & put bottle of nulon injector cleaner and filled up to mix ...
went for a drive somewhere i could lead foot the hell out of it and it done a wondeful job heheh
now one thing to check is where the injectors sit there are pockets or dips .. which if theres a leak will fill up with a black or brown liquid ... if u see this get a rag and careful soak it all up so its gone .. now take car for a good drive ( alot of lead footing ) then whilst cars still running pull over and check these pockets & where injectors sit and see if you can see it pissing out & also if the pockets/dips are full again then your O rings on injectors are stuffed as the leaking O rings will piss out quicker than a leaking rocket cover leaking oil..
One thing I will say if you notice no leaks or anything then injectors are not leaking but dont be confused as the rocket covers on these cars do leak slowly when they old so the same pockets fill with black liquid ( oil ) but its a very slow process .. On my car I had leaking o rings and leaking rocket cover so I had leaks everywhere .. but if you put your finger in the liquid and smell it then you know if its fuel or oil .. or both ..
Also If you place your finger on injector where the lead connects you can feel a pulse and if the pulse feels weaker than others than that be the problem injector so needs a ultrasonic off car clean which if thats the case better get all 6 or 8 done .. around $30 each or worse case like mine i needed 2 new injectors. which was extra $100
good luck ...
p.s. its not good idea to let car run down to fumes .. always fill up when its 1/4 a tank to be safe ..
