no not really....what this does is just absorbs vapours...hence the name charcoal(best absorbing material around.... even the medical profession use it)

fuel vapors escaping into the engine compartment through the crack doesn't sound like a great thing to me. i'd think about replacing it.

The quantity of fuel vapours we're talking about here is absolutely miniscule. Not a dangerous fault, but you're right a good idea to replace it, as an anal retentive mechanic will fail it as unroadworthy for having defective emissions gear.

the car got a road worthy with it broken. he even had a good look at it saw it was broken and still passed it. and the roadworthy was done on a Friday at 4pm maybe this had something to do with it.

Like I said, they'd have to be anal retentive to fail it, but technically I'm pretty sure they could. If it's passd then I wouldn't be too fussed about it then.

it's not a real great concern for emission control, thats why it passed,it's only there to soak up vapours, which as i see in an earlier post of yours miniscule
sure if they want to be ar$e holes about it,but it's not really in their favor to be

Most local small workshop guys are pretty good, unless you piss them off of course. One of the big chain stores around my area has a rep for being a serious pain in the arse about that sorta thing though.

yeah were i work we wouldnt pass that for road worthy but only because we being a dealership cant afford to get a bad reputation from dodgy road worthys as we make alot of money out of them for sale as used cars but id probs get it changed anyway if ya got the money but it isnt to big of an issue
