After buying a VnSS for a good price and having a bit of fun, I decided to give it a bit more go. I fitted a set of 4.11 gears out of a 86 pintara, mini spool and a 3000rpm convertor, what a difference this makes, awesome acceleration and crazy skids. I have now pulled the engine as it has very high k's (450000) and am in the process of builing it.
Specs are ; ACL race series 9.3:1 flat tops, 0.015" of heads, balanced bottom end, power bond balancer, crane 286 cam, roller rockers, LT1 valve springs, port matched bananas, K&N pod and pacemker tri y's inot twin cats and single 3" exhaust.
Just waiting on cam and springs to come
Anyone got any idea what this combo should make after a good tune?
Also who in brisbane knows their stuff when tuning these?
Maybe 180-190 rwkw if everythings built mint but it also could just as easy make 160![]()
make sure your compression ratio is what the cam requires. isn't the crane 286 cam the equivalent cam that came out in the VN grp A commodores, they made good power but did have the advantage of the twin TB setup

the Legend will live forever
VN exec T5: 15.1sec @92.2mph 1/4 mile, 9.7sec @ 74.6mph 1/8mile, 2.3sec 60ft, 0-60mph 6.827sec 22/11/07 Gtech competition
Crane suggest 9.5-10:1 compression for that cam. Acl say 9.3:1 @ 76cc total clearance volume so I will get approx 9.7:1 @ 65cc with zero deck height and shaved heads.
Crane 276 is GpA replacement
Yeah sounds just about smack on what ya want in terms of compression. The bananas are going to hold you back though. Should be a ****load of fun anyway. From the write ups I've seen on similar combos, I'd be putting my money on mid 180kw's at the treads, although a lot will depend on how hard the tuner pushes it. A better flowing manifold will give better results obviously.
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

if your doing a reblild, build a stroker it dosent work out a great deal more expensive. thats what i'm doing
How many mufflers are you plannin on running with that 3inch exhaust? My old mans has a 3inch with one muffler & it does drone a fair bit around 1500rpm-2500rpm.
I FRYED RICE!!!
Its got twin standard cats and an edelbrock muffler, nice and throaty but thick wall pipe cuts down on drone
It makes up for the droning at around 4000rpm+![]()
