Question engine cuts out when getting warm

    hey all,

my mate has a vn v6 calais with a vp engine in it and he is having a problem with it that it cuts out and runs rough when it starts to get a bit warm.

on start up the car runs/idle's perfect but when the temp gets to about a 1/4 on the gauge it starts to run a bit rough and when u give it a few revs it backfires a few time then it cuts out.

any help would be great, thanks in advance

the crank angle sensor is behind the harmonic balancer on the right hand side look into the engine bay, a good way to tell if that is the problem is pour cold water over it and try to start it, when it cuts out and won't start. if it starts then that is the problem if it doesn't the u should start looking else where like dfi unit, coil packs, or fuel pump, find out if it has spark and fuel..

its on the right hand side of the harmonic balancer about level with the centre bolt but u would have to pull the balancer off to see it proply try the cold water test and make sure thats what it is..

the smaller pully above the harmonic balancer is the water pump pully.
