Default VN and VP have different parcel shelves

I just wanted to know if anyone can have a look up at the parcel shelf from inside the boot in a non IRS VP and tell me if there is a hole under the high mount tail light. It's just that I noticed my VP has the hole and the VN is all solid and I didn't think there was any differences between the shells. Now I'm wondering what else changed in the shell from VN-VP.

Oi Airstriker fix that title to say parcel shelves I've breathed to much bushfire fumes today

VN didnt have the high level brake light, They had all 4 lights in the back, the ones with the high level only had 2.
Thats probley why theres the hole.
Some VN's didnt have rear speakers.

You just solved a massive mystery for me. I was talking about this to VN2NV. When I went for a roadworthy on my VP they made me have all 4 rear brake lights working but there was no wires! and there wasn't any on the VN I got a spare loom from at the wreckers. So anyway I rewired it and now have 4 lights and the high mount light all working :P.

But besides that little mystery, my VN has the high mount, just the same as my VP but the hole isnt there on the VN

something i've been wondering myself. would a parcel shelf from a VP with highstop light fit a VN without. my VN had some sort of plastic highstop light fitted but it was plastic and the sun damaged it overtime and it rattled like a biatch so i got rid of it but i should have one for the next WOF (6 monthly inspection)

you shouldnt need one, as it wasnt fitted from factory. unless of course you want one fitted.

vn series 2 has only two lights too. i had to change my girlfriends mums car. then i looked on mine to realise it was standard like that.
the high mount tail light you are talking about. i take it you mean the one sitting on the parcel shelf. i have had 3 vn's, two series 1's and one series 2 and the parcel shelves have been the same from what i can tell. and they have all had the light sitting on the parcel shelf.
maybe it was changed in vp.

the VN's had a bracket spot welded onto rear shelf (sheetmetal) for the highmount brake light and the wire was fed down thru one of many pre-drilled holes in the sheetmetal, the parcel shelf was clipped into place with clips, the high mount brake light sat on top of shelf and self tappered screws used to go thru parcel shelf to bracket underneath

true, in a way, here in NZ all vehicles from 1990 need high stop lights fitted. if it's before 1990 then you don't need it.......unless it's had one fitted then it does need to work (mines a 1989 but did have one fitted at some stage) now i'm not sure if it was fitted by holden but it looks crappy and rattles like hell and wasn't working so i ripped it out. but i'll need something to get my next wof etc. i likethe look ofthe late model cars where the highstop light is part of the parcel shelf and is under the carpeted bit etc. i'm sure you must be able to mod the sheet metal underthe parcel shelf to fit the later style stop light?

Mine used to have the VR Parcel shelf and VR light under the carpet. It all fits into a VN/P easy but I wanted mine to have the original setup

so it fits straight in, no mods needed, except to the sheetmetal to fit the light?

I thin its something like that hear to. From a certian date when the ADR rules came in it had to be changed. Thats why theres still VN's that have all 4 brake lights in the tail lights cus they used the left over looms.

The light in mine fitted on the VN/P taillight mount but was screwed into the side instead of the top, you would have to look at a VR/S to see the official way . The seatbelts come through the parcel shelf on the VR too, you can change your VN/P to do this also

    I have a 1988 calais series 1 that didn't have a parcel light.
I went to the wreckers and removed a VP steel light mount
with a chisel and bought it along with a parcel shelf off of
    the same model.
Later on I lined it up and drilled and tech screwed it to the
body and fitted the light and parcel shelf then wired up the light.
All turned out ok and working well, and it looks original, just
like as if it was made with it, and looks a lot better than before.

    Cheers,
    Bob...

Even though I had fitted the parcel shelf and light earlier to my VN,
I am now thinking about fitting a VR parcel shelf, light and retractable
    middle seat belt.
I am wrecking a VR sedan and I have all of the parts that I want to use
without going out and getting them.

    Cheers,
    Bob...

It may be old, But i wnet to fit a VR parcel Shelf to my VP when i had it in bits, It all fit, etc,, But htere was a big ugly 1 inch gap at the rear that i didnt like, so i went and got another VP parcel shelf i didnt not want the gap.

So thats got me thinking, How did Green foam get his in there without a gap. OR did it allso have a gap ?
