My other half just put a replacement dizzy in my vn 5.0L after it stalled and refused to restart the other day. Now the engine has a ticking sound like a tappet noise, any idears whether it could be a related prob or somthing else has gone wrong. The old dizzy was a mess inside and the litte blue conector had compleatly cmoe off.![]()
I didn't do it
First, check your base timing in diagnostic mode with a timing light, it should be set to 10 degrees before TDC, or a few more degrees if you're an adventurous type. If the noise is loud and turns up under load and high rpm, it could be detonation (unlikely, it's a fairly distinctive noise and usually wouldn't be described as "ticking", but worth a check)
If your base timing is ok then get a screwdriver. Place the blade of the screwdriver against an injector while the car is running. Place your ear against the handle of the screwdriver, if you hear/feel the ticking to be amplified, you have just found the culprit. Most vn's have noisy injectors, bloody irritating. If the ticking doesn't match up with the injectors, then try putting the screwdriver on the rocker covers.
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.
