VP Berlina elextrics completely dead
Hi,
I have Belina LX which suddenly decided not to start. I have a no ignition lights at all. Interior light is the only thing working. It has a new battery so i no its not that. It has factory fitted central locking and imobiliser. The weird thing is it has a constant ticking sound coming from the body control module.
I disconnected the battery overnight and got ignition lights back but as soon as i turned the key to start it the ticking come back and no ignition again.
Any one have any ideas? Could it be a faulty body control module?

pardon my ignorance....body control module? i take it you mean the security system? i had a similar problem with my calais,it turned out to be a faulty lock in the glove box(for the anti theft system),as for the ticking sound i can't help you with that one,unless it's related to the faulty lock in glove box.Originally Posted by holster
check fuses and relays under the bonnet near the radiator tank, swap some relays around, but make sure they are identical relays.
sounds like starter motor to me, where is ticking comeing from? are terminals dirty that did it to me once.
Ive had a look at where the ticking is coming from and the small box has Body Control Module stamped on it. Im not sure if it is related to the alarm system.
the body control module clicks when power is cut off and put back on to it, if you disconnect the fuel pump fuse or battery and reconnect it, the BCM will click to let you know it's back on.
Check the fusable links at the battery there is a sepparate link for the ign switch if i remember right,give all the links a pull to see if its corroded through.
If it is dont be tempted to put a piece of wire in its place because they are there to protect your car from going up in smoke

instead check the main fusesand connections

Sorry i should have said that it constantly clicks. The only way i can stop it is to disconnect the battery. As soon as i reconnect it i get ignition lights back but as soon as you turn the key it starts clicking continously.
The other thing I would look for is check all the earths,cant exactly remember but i think there is one near the ecu,there is one out just above the battery main earth .Electricity does some bloody funny things when it cant find its way back to the battery by the correct route.
It sounds like a bad connection somewhere for sure, the reason you get a clicking from the relay is because soon as you load up the circuit the voltage drops thus the relay drops out,and then the power comes back enough to pull it in again and away we go again.
The other thing to do is to get a voltmeter and check the voltage at the back of the ign switch with the ign turned off,turn the switch to the ign position and see if it drops,if it does trace it back to the faulty connection.
