Well it comes down to how big you want it (Liters) and what connections you want (hose tail, JIC, BSP or ORB) and the shape (Round, Square or Custom).

Also it helps if you know what pump and line size you using.

    look to spend from $45 - $200.

Give a little more info like fuel pump, Lift pump, Return line size and fuel reg line size.

Well the car is a completely stock vp no mods at all. So I'm guessing everything is standard.

This thread is gold, what surge tank should I get and what does it do. You dont need one mate.
The stock pump wont be pulling enough juice for fuel surge to be an issue.

WOW JC finally let me post a comment, I’m the owner of the vp gee38l is talking about, the car looses power on every sharp turn when the fuel is under half full. SOLION: surge tank! but, there are so many chooses and sizes, hence why I am asking you guys! I know I know its a stock commi, but its a learning curve and I’m planning to put a manual gear box, lsd diff and rock suspension, but I have this first problem of the loss of power!!! plz if you have any information on custom installations, comment!

Check everything else mate, there is not one member here with a stock fuel system with a surge tank. The stock pumps don't have enough suction for there to be fuel starvation at high lateral G's.

i bet that your swirl pot is dislodged from the bottom of your tank and thats the reason why your pump is starved of fuel.... airstrike is right too....you need to fix the problem properly before you try and install an external surge tank....

LoL My Vn with ecotec sideways doesnt lose fuel, even when almost empty... Drop your tank clean it, clean your pump, flush your lines, clean your injectors, new filter...

Or learn to drive... Surge tank, I know a couple 300-500rwkw cars without surge tanks..

So your lil 6 wont be surging, check ur stuff...

No factory cars come with one, surge tanks are aftermarket.

Hey 4eyedperson. It was great to find your thread. I've just started having the exact same problem with my stock standard VN.

It would be absolutely fine, but if I'm running at just under half a tank and I go around a right hand corner (quite hard) it'd just die. It started doing it after nothing had been changed, so I replaced the pump. This had no effect - problem still there. So I got a 2nd hand tank (holden told me new tanks were no longer available), got my mechanic to put the new pump into it and guess what. Yep - No Change. Just a little frustrating to say the least.

So you say the mechanic just didn't put the pump in right hey! Typical - but he's a good guy. Can you give me any other info that I can tell my mechanic so he can put it in right?

    Really hoping you have,

    Cheers,
    Adomatt

Does she die on full lock? Curious.

My VP does die now and then when I do a full lock!! But only just after starting it. Thort it could be just the belt...+ I took my car sideways up a curb the other day and it now makes a grinding sound (now and then as well) when turning right, how easy is it to change the steering rack? And would my VP exec have the same rack as my bros VR man 5L? Need to change both so just wondering. I haven’t had a look at my fuel pump properly yet but I had a quick look and realized that the bottom of my fuel tank and tow bar are starting to rust, due to using it a lot for towing my boat up and down the boat ramp. So going to have to fix the fuel prob and the rust in one go. When I get the time.....

lol - HaHaHa. Sorry again MaT.

No - full lock not a problem.
Only dies if it's about half full and I go around a right hand corner. Full lock or not.

    Cheers

adomatt i think I figured out how to fix our problem! I changed my fuel filter yesterday and with an almost empty fuel tank I can take a sharp right or left bend at high speeds and it doesn’t miss a beat!!! Don’t know how it makes a difference, must have been full of sh!t. give it a go, + it was only a half and hour fix!

dunno my car after one night of driving around a round about at about 30km did probley 20 laps, (it was a ur going to give in first thing with a mate) the car started coughing and back fire due to lack of fuel, because all the fuel was being throw to one side, being rather low on fuel the intake swirl pot thing would empty and the car would kinda die so yeah...

Cheers sgthoon, I'll give that a try. But which fue filter do you mean? - the one at the pickup of the fuel pump or the one outside the tank. I'm assuming you mean the one outside. But I can't see how that would make a difference but willing to do anything now. As i spent 2 hours on Friday with my mechanic trying to sus it out. We concluded that there must be a blockage at the bottom of the swirl pot where the return line goes into it. Causing the swirl pot not to fill up with fuel.
But will give a filter a go.

Cheers - will let you know.
