is a gennuine vn/vp cai illegal to put on a vn/vp because i was reading about it and wanted to know if its illegal to put a genuine vn/vp cai on to a vn/vp if i bought one on ebay of from holden. could you please give me more information on it.
no such thing as a genuine vn/p one, there is a vs one that fits vn/p.
being a factory part, i cant see it being a problem, but since it wasnt factory on a vn/p, cops could get picky i spose.
ive got one on mine, never been questioned, but also, theyve never opened the bonnet. its less illegal than an open pod filter
I would be inclined to say anything you do to the intake in front of the MAF would be legal as long as the sensors are still where they are supposed to be. The only reason a pod filter can be illegal is the noise they make. If it exceeds the legal noise limit then it has to come off. (only if you need an RWC though)
i wont be touching anything to do with sensors just putting the genuine holden cai over the top of the radiator and keeping the factory air box so im just putting in a holden cai wont be ddoing anything else to the air box just keeping it standard
Nothing illegal about that.
Well the VN/VR intake doesn't have electronics(sensors, etc) right upto the throttle body, and the VS S/C CAI is not illegal to put on.
lol, wrong again.
vn-vr have a "MAP sensor", manifold absolute pressure, no air flow meter.
did i say it did have anything to do with air flow?
they still dont have an air flow meter.
and pretty sure vs onwards dont have a map sensor.(i could be wrong on this one, ive never taken a good look at a vs onwards)
hmm, seems it does have something to do with airflow, as it can be used to calculate the air flow rate.

dunno if our ecu's use "speed density" method though.
the MAP sensor reads vaccume / boost which is STILL airflow but more pressure than anything.. it more relates to the engine load, as if the engine is map at say map 40 and at 3500 rpm the airflow would be less than map 100 (full throttle) at 3500 rpm
quite correct the buick engines done use a MAF or AFM sensor, and im pretty sure the VS's dont run a MAP sensor but im not %100 sure either
yeah its not illeagle to run the CAI and pod filters can be passed through road worthy, only reason they'd bump them is if they are not secured..
would the police defect the car if they found out you have a cai in a vp exec 3.8V6
****en TB then.....lol. What I was trying to say is that if you don't alter the emissions then you can do what you like as long as it is safe and not too loud.
