do you have to tell the insurance company if you put a cai in a vn/vp or not
Yeah and it increases your paymets to, they see it as a performance enhancing mod that gives u massive gains! Thats what they told me when i enquired about it.
Nate
what if it the same as a factory one.
so do you have to tell the insurance company if you put a genuine holden cold air intake in to a vn/vp
I wouldn't bother telling them. If questioned about it later, just say it was like that when you purchased it and you thought it was standard.![]()
Shannons are very much the same as every other insurer, I found them to be downright rude when it comes to pricing, age probably has a lot to do with it but it's no longer 25 and insurance gets cheaper it's now 30.
At the end of the day I would shop around first so you know what your up for and then ring a broker who should be able to get the best price for you.
As for the OP I tell my insurance company absolutely everything mod wise right down to the when I had the lighting / dash done by Phreddy, I take a lot of pride in my car, I want it to be seen in my insurance company's eyes as I do the right thing then there are no excuses for not paying out in the event that something happens.
It's really not worth the risk not telling your insurance everything.
exactly the opposite with me,very friendly, interested in what i had to say.how many insurance companies give you one free windscreen a year, doesn't interfere with your claims, excess, etc, etc.they agree on what you think your market value is on your car,and it stays that way with the life of your premium with them,i informed them that in 12 months time that my VN may well be heavily modified, they told me that the premium may increase a little, which is to be expected, but you can also increase the value of your car,if in an accident.i have had personal problems with aami, and i have been with them for years,so i'm now moving over to shannons,as they are car enthusiasts themselves, and understand your needs.but for sure shop around, for sure if your under 25 your excess is going to be very high, and same with premiums,i know for a fact, aami still has the under 25 stipulation,as they asked if i had kids to add to my premium.
I suppose I must have just got the wrong person at the wrong time which is certainly possible as we all have shocking days from time to time especially in customer service.
I distinctly remember the fellow as it struck being as being very unusual behaviour especially for someone in customer service or sales in this make, he basically laughed saying it would be thousands to insure and not worth it, I would suggest go somewhere else.
lol very strange. but yeah i am with JustCar and i've found them awesome. i asked Shannons about insurance, and they wouldn't insure me because my car wasn't worth enough apparently (must be over $6K i think)
Definitely tell you about the CAI. 100% this is a necessity. If the insurance company decides to go down to the warehouse where your car will be kept and do an inspection (whcih of course they can do at any time) and notice you have a CAI, they will have little hesitation in ripping up the agreement. Because the agreement states they will insure the car that you tell them about. they won't insure the car that has mods you don't tell them about. Just remember - insurance companies don't get rich by paying out claims!
and if you decide to go down the path of "sorry, i didn't know it was a modification" - in the eyes of the law: "ingnorat en exusat" - or "ingnorance is not an excuse". its just like getting on a train without a ticket, the transit officer comes up and gives you a fine. You say "sorry i didn't know i needed a ticket". TOO BAD.
So yeah, just tell them about it. Barely made a difference on mine.
I had to take my car down to aami after my car got stolen to get it re-insured because they had to check it over and made sure i fixed everything that was broken while it was stolen. Anyway i wouldnt have to tell them anything would i?? because they physically looked the car over????And i havnt changed anything since
Australia. Love it or leave it
Shannons and Just Car are the same company, They are the Hard to Place sections of AAMI insurance. Just car aims at the young and low end (i.e. 3rd party) and Shannons high end (wont do 3rd party at all) and older people.
Shannons wont cover me because im 19, they're for over 25's![]()
i dunno what to say about that one...just that you may have been speaking to the wrong person, they cater for all ages, standard cars, high perfomance and vintage cars, and as for shannons not doing 3rd party, they do
shannons also asked if i had any children that i wanted to add to my comprehensive cover...
aami use to be a good crowd to be with, but are rapidly declining, they are losing customers left right and centre, down here, their rep has turned very sour, and i have experienced their stupidity....
yer aami shannon's and just car are all the same i gues they just have 3 chances when it come to ppl wanting insurance.. shannons are totally different to aami and just car when it comes to repairs and stuff.. aami give 80% of there repairs to the cheapest quote there fore your car could end up in some allyway in south melbourne where all the dodge repairers are.. ppl used to go with them because they are cheap not relising what cheaper actually equaled to when it came to the repair.. so id rather pay the extra and have my car repaired in a decent panel shop then pay lees n get a ****ty repair.. but yer each to there own.. but shannons are pretty cheap when it comes to hot rods and vintage cars i guess cause most of them are driven once a month kinda thing.. and you get a free windscreen every year.. and a few other things i kno a few blokes that reckon shannons is **** hot..
LIFES A GARDEN, DIG IT..lol
i hate insurance companys they think cause im young sumink small like a CAI will make me kill myself or crash or sumink
On the Shannons website, it says we can provide you with insurance if:
"It is in good repair (except for Laid Up cover only)
It is for private use
You are the registered owner of the car/bike
All drivers/riders are aged 25 years or over"
And again when trying to get an online quote:
"A regular driver/rider is anyone who uses the car/bike more than 10% of the time. For a definition of who is a regular driver/rider, click here. All drivers/riders must be aged 25 years or older."
However it does state in their policies that drivers aged under 25 can be NOMINATED by the owner of the insurance... So in your situation you can nominate your kids (although that includes an excess of $400, or $1500 if they are not nominated). But if the person taking the insurance out themselves is over 25, then good luck to them
They do 3rd party, but not 3rd Party Fire and Theft which is what I would be chasing. That information is also on their website.

did you read the fine print, for online quoting,as soon as you put your age in,it tells you ...."sorry shannons are unable to help you with your online quoting" please telephone xxxxxxxxxx, and get an over the phone quote, now i'm not saying your wrong, they obviously have guidelines,i was asked my age,for quoting purposes,i was told that they cater for all ages, but premiums are different for age groups,so,as i said before,i don't know whats going on with them, people down here talk about them a lot too,you get to pick your own repairer, something which other insurance crowds don't let you do,aami is one of them.
insurance is b.s. if it wasnt for the peices of s*%t that steal cars...damn them. get a job and buy your own ****!!
RAA wont even cover half the damage done to my car on tuesday when 4 idots tried prying the doors open to steal it, then when they realised they couldn't smashed a window, My alarm scared them off but not quick enough to prevent a few kicks in the rear of the car, minced up chrome strip, and a smashed window. The only thing worse than that was the police, who did ABSOLUTELY noting.
I have spoken to them on the phone also, which was when they told me they didnt do third party fire and theft and that they wont cover me because of my age. I didnt even get to my car yet. But I gather from the fine print they do make exceptions, but not to 18 or 19 year olds I dont think. With 32,000 members on this site, you wont find one person under 21 insured by Shannons.
wow...seriously though, couldn't you have them for discrimination?whats there to say that your a better driver than me,just because i may of had years more experience, doesn't mean that you can't handle your car better than what i can, now i'm not saying you do, do it,but hey you probably can handle getting out of a fish tail better than me,or brinigng a 360 undercontrol better than me,you probably have more experience in that area than me,if you get what i'm trying to say.
Not that I would ever be fishtailing
Yeah insurance is crap... They're not the only ones though, lotsa insurance companies wont touch under 25's but normally its only if they have a V8 or modified car. Only SGIC and Just Car were willing to insure me...
I would love to be with Shannons though for the agreed value. If i could get it insured for 5 or 6k I would be laughing, enough to replace parts damaged in a write off situation, and enough to get another Calais to put the parts onto.
