Question Car wont start, what to do?

Car just ran out of petrol im guessing? The gauge hasnt worked for quiet sometime but i usually know when im out of fuel, however i may have been caught out. I accelerated quiet hard down a quiet street got to 100 and then took foot off excelerator the it konked out. I have put 10 litres from a jerry in it and it still wont ignite. Now it sitting out in quiet st. and hopefully its still there tomorrow. Anyone got idea's what might be happening?

Im thinking becuz its completely out of fuel it might be causing probs. But i can hear pump working after i finish trying to start it. It does sound like its sucks air tho....

anyways if anyone has had prob can you give me a hand
    Cheers

i would start by undoing a fuel hose near the tank and see if it is pumping fuel there, if it is it could be a blocked fuel filter, so try a new one, if it isn't pumping any fuel from the tank before the filter, id say its time for a new pump, is it the dash or the unit in the tank that isn't working for u not to have a fuel gauge, if its the dash there is a good thread on here that might help u.

you need to put more than 10 litres into it,to get it fired up,expect problems though once you get enough fuel into it,especially if there is any gunk in tank.

Doing 100 down a quiet street, apart from being an idiot, I say poetic justice.

Thanks for the smartalic reply, however the speed sign was not 60 but 80, and the 5ltr cracks the speed pretty quick. Unless you have a v8 then you wouldnt know the feeling of the v8 power and acceleration. SO stick to your vs acclaim v6 granny driving.

thats not very nice ....considering most of us have owned 5 litres before, and high performance chev engines.
the question still remains, why crack your 5 litre to 100K's in an 80K zone

does this mean you don't want help from any v6 driver or only from v6 acclaim drivers?

being a smart*** asside, it could be one of your fuel pumps is burned out and the other's going (i'm fair certain the 5L's had 2), have yuo tried
    - spraying aerostart into the tb?
    - checking fault codes
    - map hose connected still?
    - all fuses it could be?

this guy seems to have had a similar prob, maybe read thru this thread/pm him

There is no reason im just telling the story as it happened. Can u tell me you have never gone over the speed limit? I was just fustrated with people being smart when how can they judge me like that when they hav done the same thing no doubt plenty of times in the past and present. And in the original story i hit 100 then laid of accelerator, not hard to hit an extra 20k's
Apart from trailing off from the actual problem i have tried getting it on level ground and banging fuel tank, i have been told 10 litres is sufficient to start it. Prob is i cant hear pump after trying to start it now, before i could hear it now she is just dead, Think i might go get a manual and have some fun trying to fix it myself.
Thanks for the help much appreciated from all.

no i can't afford to go around speeding, and 10 litres is not sufficient to get it going over, especially if you have run it dry(hence the suggestion never to run it dry,not only for the injectors, but because of how big the tank is,and the further damage that can be done),so from what you are describing now, is because of your continiung attempt to get it going, sounds like you have now burnt out 1 fuel pump

    Default The Result

    Fuel system was fine.
It was actually the coil. Previously there was a thread about this problem, however the dodgey mech who try to fix it put a coil on that wasnt the correct size and it had come loose.

    Has this happen to you?

Thanks for the help guys, hope this will help someone in the future if this prob comes up.
