theres no real major differences that i'm aware of.just a few differences interior wise, hence, dash roof lining in the calais, and grille, basically fully optioned,as for the berlina, once again theres no real difference, probably just different cloth used for the seats than the executive,ss,well i haven't seen many to comment on any differences

Can't speak for other models, but out of those that i have driven (S-pac and Calais) these are the differences over the Exec model

    S-pac:
    Colour coded bumpers
    FE2 kit
(feel free to add more if you can think of them)

    Calais:
    Climate control
    Lvl3 Dash with full computer
Speed Sensitive steering (except i had to take mine out when i converted to manual )
    Either leather or velour interior
    Light in the centre console
    IRS (in VP)
Full Power options (mirrors, windows etc)
    Adjustable wiper speed
Sun visor has a mirror and furry covering
    3 point adjustable seats
Front seats have pockets in the back
Alloy wheels that don't look crap
2-toned paint scheme (usually a dark colour over silver)
Apart from rare few, only made in Automatic

Hope that helps... don't really know a lot about the other models. The SS comes with LSD too

Looks wise, the calais have two tone paint, of course the bagdes, electric aerial, etc, since you wanted the looks department. Body wise in a vx calais i dont like, the front ends look weird as they made it a bit pointier.

VP Calais/Berlina's Have the chrome strips on the tail-lights
    VP SS have red strips

Calais have Chrome Baileys Channels (window surrounds) and chrome in bumpers and door protectors.

VP Calais have the rear wheel spats.

But main differences are in the kit and grill.

The other difference being that you can probably pick up a calais a bit cheaper than an SS, and chances are it's been given a little less of a flogging over its years.

no difference in the engine, the only difference is that SS come regularly in manual, whereas Calais is very very rarely manual.

the calais is a much much better car though. The SS is not much more than an executive. It has FE2 kit, LSD, fog lights and a body kit. And in the VN it has a nice Atlas Gray colour.

The Calais is a much better car though. go with that, and if you want manual, just convert it

just a question, now why would 2 vehicles with the same engine in them weigh differently?(SS-Calais 5L) i'm only going to guess what your answer is going to be,so i'll wait until i hear back and when i'm back at home so that i can check specs via gvm plates

The calais are heavier as they have more sound deadener thru the car.

I think thats bout the only difference, but it is a big weight difference, deadener weighs alot.

ahhh no they don't and even if they did,it wouldn't even move the scales...
the only differences is the options and the 2 tone paintwork, even the bumpers are the same, this is an argument i was having with an insurance company, when some clown side swiped me and took my right hand rear bar end with him,the assesor tried to tell me that calais bars are different and i told him that they are not,(reason-they repaired...quite shonkily too, instead of replacing,as their motto states)i order in bars all the time for VN's and there is no difference front or rear, all part #'s are the same from exectutive right thru to calais.

still hardly enough to tip the scales, the trim would weigh no more than standard, hence electric window button compared to a manual window winder

The VN SS weigh's in at 1395kg while the VN Calais is 1455kg making it 60kg heavier. That 60kg is aprox 130lb's extra. That equates to a MPH of around 95mph* for the SS and 93mph* for the Calais. So if your going for quick quarter mile times I know what I would start with.
*Times are based on factory weight and power.

is there really alot of dedener in the calais?? if so you could always just remove it to decrease weight.

The Calais has different seats and trim, cruise control, climate control... All that jazz which the SS doesnt. Although some SS' do have cruise but none came with climate control.

thats not going to make the car heavier considering climate control weighs the same as a standard heater control module,velour/leather trim is no heavier than cloth/vinyl,also electric mirrors aren't as heavier either, switches weigh no more than the manual lever, the only way the cars would be lighter is if the aircon wasn't factory, that would be an extra what 50 pounds with one fitted.the calais would also weigh less with a 5 speed manual box.
i looked at all my VN's lastnight, there is no GVM #'S marked on the plates including the SS i looked at,so to me,they all weigh the same(same engines fitted, etc, etc).

Here we go again. Next time you have an SS and a Calais together look at the trim. The Calais uses larger bolsters in the seats, which equals more foam. The calais had more sound deadener in places like the boot which the SS didn't. The calais used a thick shag carpet then the SS. The Calais had extra carpet in the boot covering the spare. All these things add up.
