Recently my fuel pump has been making a really loud grindy sort of sound and i wondered what what is wrong with it.
I got the car from the gold coast a few weeks ago for $800 (unreg) and drove it back here to Kendall (40 odd k's south of Port Macquarie) with no problems at all. It is in pretty good shape. The guy I baught it off said it has a new fuel pump and now as i said earlier it is noisy. you can hear is over the engine while idleing but when u give it gas it seems to go away.
Any response would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I guess what i am asking is, is it normal for it to be noisy or does it mean it is going to die?
it should make a buzzing noise when u put the car in the " on " position but other than that no it shouldn't make any other noise.
its not a performance one is it? because some of them make a racket but they are for drag or heavily worked cars.
We got rep back, yaaay!
Mate, it could mean the damn thing's about to fizzle, or it could mean nothing at all.
My last pump was silent for 10mths and died on the spur of the moment, while my new pump makes more noise than a pissed off cat but hasn't given me any problems.

I dont know if it is a performance one, i have no idea.
I was quiet untill just recently. The only thing I can think of is that I syphoned the fuel from the car I just sold and put it into this cars tank. The Older car needed that upper cylander lubricant because it was designed for leaded fuel. So it has unleaded fuel with upper cylander lubricant in it. Would that matter? I have read that the fuel pump needs fuel in it to lubricate it hence having it running without fuel will cause it to seize, but have read nothing about my situation.
I has not stopped working, its just noisy.
You have GOT to be kidding
You're a fair dinkum tightarseI would have just taken the old car for a quick spirited drive.
But I'd be inclined to say your pump has probably just developed some personality... how loud is it? Can you hear it clearly from inside the car when you turn it on? Can you hear it over the motor? I can just hear mine over the motor if I listen up.

You get noisey ones and u get quiet one (RE: stock pumps)
ive got 2 VS commos, one has a HO pump in it and it makes a sweet hi frequency buzz sound. The other is stock and its whisper quiet. My mate has a VS, he hasnt touched the pump and it emits a deep- almost grindy type buzz louder then my Walbro HO pump! My first car was a VP wagon and the stock pump in that was crazy noisy, didnt have any problems with it at all though, and only died 3 years later lol
Im with Morton.. its developed it own personality hehe
p.s if your really worried by it.. there are standard replacement pumps (Delco i think??) going for around $70 on ebay atm. cheap as chips for piece of mind!!

Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

hey thanks guys... lol
I need to be a tight arse at the moment, im living on $50 a week because of full time study and need to drive a fair bit every week.
The pump it really noisy, you can eaisly hear ot over the engine, but when you accelerate it seems to dissapear and not because of the increased engine noise.
I think i will just wait until it dies and then give it a new one. Ill just have to turn the music up so i cant hear it.![]()

Your fuel pump has obviously taken after the rest of the buick V6 engine. Rough and noisy at idle, but happy when it winds up![]()
