How do I know if a VN is a Police Car?
Hi all,
A workmate has a VN S-Pack which I might be buying later this year if he decides to sell it. He said it had silver steel wheels on it when he bought it (now has VN SS wheels). So when he said it had the silver wheels, POLICE CAR immediatly came to my mind. So I open the bonnet looking for BT1 on the build plate, I couldnt find it but it was dark so maybe I missed it. BUT what I did find was that it had FE2 suspension & the build plate said HOLDEN COMMODORE VN P/CAR or something like that but it definetly said P/CAR, so I would think that stands for Police Car?
Can someone please tell me if its a police car or where to look to find out if it is? Thanks

If it has flashing lights on the roof, a siren & says POLICE on the side of the car. Then, I think you would have a police car

Hehehe ..
Well apart from the sirens and police written down the side, the BT1's had a speedo face like this ..
So yeah, it only went up to 200k's instead of 220 ... But people often swap speedo's but it is a quick way to check ..
I may be wrong, but the BT1's were highway patrol ... There are lots of cars that were general duty cop cars, that salesmen tell people that they were BT1 chasers, just to sell them the car...

Proper Highway patrol cars that cruise the backroads of Victoria are allways V8's. There are V6 BT1's that used to slug around the citys arresting people for spray painting walls and other general city like crimes :P

My car is an ex-cop car, although not a BT1. She belonged to a detective in CIB in New Norfolk, Tasmania. She's a bitsa, ask foam! She has SS stripes on front and rear bumpers, berlina side trims, FE2, no A/C...
So there's always that possiblity too.

Commodore BT1
The Commodore BT1 or the Police Pack was a special pack for the VN Commodore that was available to the Australian and New Zealand Police Forces. It was based on the Commodore Executive and added various specification upgrades to cater to the needs of the Police Force.
Many believe that BT1 Commodores had a "cop chip" which increased the engine power output, however this is a myth, as the engine power is the same as in regular VN Commodores.
The BT1 Commodores standard features supersede and add to those of the Commodore Executive. Although the pack varied in each state, they were commonly fitted with:
5.0 litre 165 kilowatt V8 engine
4-speed automatic transmission
Engine tuning stage 5
Extractors
FE2 sports suspension
Oil sump protector
Unique instrument cluster
Unique interior lighting
SS exhaust pack
