Default VN S1 odometer has failed

The odometer in my 1990 S1 VN V6 Exec has stopped working. The speedo still works fine.

Does anyone know if the odometers commonly fail? Is there an easy fix?

If I have to replace the entire instrument cluster then is the new (secondhand) odometer easy to reset to the original kilometer reading?

    Thanks

The drive gear has probably stripped some teeth. Kopper has done a detailed how to here Broken Odometer
Although it's on a VR, it should be similar on a VN.

Yeah i have seen countless amounts of VN's without a working odom.

They usually crap out at about 190-250, i have only ever seen one VN witha workin one and it was at 334,000 and still goin, but most stop b4 250,000

My old VN had it for 3 weeks then its stopped on 224,000, it now lives next door and would be on around 380,000 if it still worked
