VR Steering wheel on VN

I was at the wreckers and found a nice stock leather wheel with airbag off a VR Statesman. I also saw a non airbag centre that would fit to make a non airbag leather wheel.

I was keen to buy the lot and fit it to my VN.

The wrecker guy said that it wouldn't work because even though the spline is the same, the VR/VS wheels sit further out than the VN/VP wheels and leave an open gap between the back of the wheel and the column trim.

Has anybody noticed this.

Yes there is a gap but it will still fit alright.

I had a gap on the VN Calais wheel I fitted and horn was not working. So I put a few small washers under the brass contact ring and now horn works fine. Is that what they mean by gap? that the horn wont work???
