getting annoyed with this intermittent problem.
my Berlina starts fantastically every time, wether it's hot or cold.
however, if i drive it for 10 minutes or less from start up and then turn it off, it may not start untill it cools down totally.
it sounds like there is no spark at all, and when it finally starts it will give a big cough and then fire up and run with no problems.
I have replaced the fuel pump and had the timing sensor replaced about 12 months ago and have no other problems with it.
i mainly run on LPG and when it is playing up it won't start on either fuel.
Could be your crank angle sensor again. Are there any oil leaks that cover it in oil?
it hasn't backfired, gives a cough just before it catches though.
i take this as an indication that it's now getting spark and it's gunna start.
if it doesn't give a cough then i know it won't fire.
i think the cough is just clearing the pots of excess fuel and allows it to get the right air/fuel mixture on the next stroke.
it really sounds as though there is no spark at all, but only when it hasn't warmed up enough.
a mate said to change the coil packs, but i want verification before i go to the expense.
I have heard similar stories where the lpg system has backfired causing problems with the mixer depending on the brand of system. The CAS is proberbly the first thing to check though.
EDIT: beat me to it, forget about the mixer now
pouring water over the sensor doesn't help.
and it never happens when the engine is hot
check coil packs, leads and plugs. coil packs and leads you can check with a multimeter, they're cheap as chips.
searches for ignition module etc will help you, and searches about plugs will show you what to look for.
thanx for your help everybody.
i guess i'm gunna have to get a multi meter and learn how to drive it.
was getting a truck fixed at the outo elecs and spoke to him about it and he suggested i bring it in so he can look at it.
it was perfect timing because it wouldn't start when i got there so he could check it out, he ended up having it for a day and couldn't figure it out either.
he put a second hand coil pack in it to see how it goes and told me to come back in a week.
if it is working ok then we will put a new coil pack in it.
again i thank you all for your suggestions
well guys,we can definately rule out a problem with the coil packs now.
with the second set of coil packs it's doing the same thing.
with this information in hand, the car may have to stay at the auto elecs for a while.
i'll post the results and costs of the repair when it happens, either that or i won't turn it off when i run intoi the shop, or take it for a 15 minute drive before turning it off.
when i turn my car off it does the same thing somethings and tonight my car died and i had to get a toe home when i got home i started it and it cough and all that then came good and i drove it up the drive way but it went thro alot of water and i pulled the CAS plug out and it was real dirty and looked abit wet so the water pump is leaking into the CAS and you have to wait till the sensor dries so you can drive it. see if its the same problem with yours.
i too have the same problem with my vn, it will drive perfect and then it just cuts out and i have to wait anywhere between 5 - 20 minutes and then it starts again i have replaced the computer, the o2 sensor , the trottle sensor , the crank sensor leads plugs and i still have the problem anyone have any other ideas of what it is i took it to the mechanics and they said to chuck it out the dump so much for good mechanics these days i have also replaced the starter motor, the alternator so its got me stuffed
