Okay i have a crack in my right hand manifold. As the crack is before my O2 sensor will the sensor be getting wrong readings and running more petrol through which would cause some to be left unburnt and then cause the vapours to escape out of the crack and cause the petrol smell in my cabin when i have the fan on? I know that is a very long winded and unpuntuated sentance.
i guess it'd cause minor 02 problems, don't know how much this would affect the rest of the system. you can get cast headers from a wreckers for heaps cheap anyway.
it'd also cause backpressure issues.
It would cause more damage to the cat. When you back off the crack would allow small amounts of air to be sucked in. When you accelerate again, the extra oxygen in the exhaust causes the front of the cat to get hotter and it will eventually melt. It may affect the O2 sensor signal in that it would sense too much oxygen making the ECU think it is running lean throwing more fuel in and perpetuating the overheating cat.
Thanks guys I will get it fixed as soon as I have some flow.
I have a small crack in my exhaust just before the cat(stupid speed bumps) And when i rev the car then take my foot off, I can here a pchhhhh kinda sound. I cant realy spell what sound it is. Is that air getting sucked into the exhaust? Its been doing it for about 6 months now and i havnt got around to fixing it. Do you think some exhaust putty stuff will fix it? because i cant realy afford to buy a new Y piece for my exhaust. Anyone know how much the y piece is anyway?
Australia. Love it or leave it
i have the steel pipe manifolds and i noticed on the l/h side the middle pipe of the 3 has a crack. i can hear the exhaust leak, would this cause a slight rough idle sometimes as its on the oxy sensor side.
