Default Rear wheels slip in wet

my car has this problem when it's raining or has rained and i'm sitting on 90-100km/h it hit's pools of water on the road and the back wheels sort of lose traction and quickly grab, and you feel the whole car sort of wobble, is this normal for IRS because i have never had it happen before, and iv'e only ever had rigid diff cars.

They may have heaps of tread but some tyres are designed to disperse water better that others. If the tyre cant get rid of the water then you are aqua planing. Also remember that the roads are much more slippery lately because of the lack of rair and when it does rain the roads are very oily.

    What specific tyres are they?

    Brand/all 3 sizes etc.

It'll make a hell of a difference. I've driven with bald nankangs and not had the slightest of problems in a downpoor, yet in the dry some of the 'cheaper' tyres are crap and arent that good in the dry, let alone the wet.

they are Goodyear Eagle F1 235/45/17. i bought them second hand from a tyre place they were off the managers car, he said he was getting new ones and these were still pretty decent, so maybe they were **** and that's why he took them off.

yeah, goodyear i don't trust unless they are only 15s.

How much did you pay? anything over $80 for a 2nd handy was a rip off.

Go to Tyre power cheltnham, and ask to speak to Darryl. Tell him you know me (stealthy lol) and he'll hook you up pretty good.
He should be able to do a decent price on some 17s, as i said, nankangs are the go

i also only usually get 2nd hand tyres because i don't want to wear stockies and be cop bait, and i wear them out pretty quick, be better once i get a spool, they might not spin as much.

I dont think a spool would fix your tyre wear. Why do your tyres spin so much? Maybe you should start investing on some new tyres instead of 2nd hand ones.

yeah a spool isn't going to help much.

Unless your problem is 1 wheel spinning, then i would think its the diff.

But i really don't recommend driving with 2d hand tyres at all, i've had a REALLY bad experience when there car did a 180 on a main road after the tread seperated from the walls, and ended up on the rim.

i always get new ones on the front, but it never did it when i had the 15's on even when they were almost bald. maybe they are just crap tyres i got, it hasn't rained since i got the 17's, so i'll see what my next tyres are like. also what prices are 17's usually in adelaide the absolute cheapest i can get in the country is $135 a tyre.

tyres is one place where cheapest certainly isn't best. i tried 2nd hand once and they were the worst tyres i ever had, got rid of them reasonably quickly too

my guy said $128 is the best he can do you for!
However seeing as you said 'country' i assume the $28 saving wouldn't warrant a drive to the city.

Have you had the front end setup and aligned by a good wheel man lately? because my VP (IRS) was all over the shop in the rain untill I got the front end sorted. Everytime I would hit some water on the road it would dart from one side of the lane to the other, you really needed to concentrate to keep it on the road. Now I can drive through the deepest ruts of water with one finger on the wheel if I want to (not that I do, I allways use at least several fingers on the wheel ). All that changed on my car was the alignment on the front, it made that much difference and I'm running 4 tyres all with with marginal tread too and it's one of the most stable cars out there in the rain right now. I'm seeing heaps of new cars these last two days that don't have enough never to get up over 80km/h on the crapy highways out here where at the same time I'm quite safe at 100. Also 17 inch wheels will exagerate and slop you have in the front end, they usually midbehave on cars that have a few parts worn in the front. My brothers has 17s on his VS that only has 80,000ks on it and it's really the only VN/S I've seen that drives well with big wheelson it in the rain so that's a few things to think about and look at but one thing is for sure is that it shouldn't do that if it's right and I also doubt it's anything to do with the tread or make/type of tyre

I got a pair of 215/60/R15 Hankook silica compound tyres for $70, and they're the best thing I've ever had on my car. They were so grippy, I took them off the back, and slapped them on the front ^^ Takes a lot to lock them up in the wet now. Front end sticks to the road like glue, as opposed to the half-bald RE92s I had on there before, which preferred to skim over the water

its probably nothing really to do with your tyres.. u stated wen u hit a pool of water it happens? its called aqua-planing.

And aqua planing occurs when your tyres are too worn and water cannot escape from underneath it through the channels in the tyres hence the tyre glides over the water. So really you just contradicted yourself.
