Gidday, I'm putting a VN motor into a chev chassis. I've been chasing a dirt cheap stuffed motor to use as a mockup in the chassis for setting up clearances and engine mounts. The only motor I can find locally is a VS motor.
1. In physical size, are these two motors about the same?
2. Are the engine mount points the same?
3. How different (in size and shape) is the series1 VN sump compared to the alloy VS sump? - ie could I roughly tack the s1 sump onto the VS motor to use as a guide for cross member fabrication?
Nothing has to work- it will just be used as a dummy setup
Thanks and regards
Scoots.
the blocks are very similar in size, except that at the top, the vn motor sits about 1" higher and maybe 1/2 -1 inch wider, so the heads, manifold etc sit higher and wider by say an inch each way.
pretty sure the mount points are the same, but get someone to confirm that.
you should be able to bolt a vn sump onto the vs motor without problems.
im surprised you cant find a dead vn-vr motor locally, theyre so easy and cheap to get. where about are you?
I'm in Cairns mate. Apparently dead VN motors are so common down south that people trip over them walking down the streetUp here things seem to be a bit different.
Sounds like the VS motor might do the job. Height won't be a problem and the width shouldn't affect anything.
Thanks for your help.
Can anyone else confirm engine mounting points are the same?

Well my Mrs should be used to it by now![]()
I've got a 1990 VN 5 speed that I will be using all the running gear out of and putting into my '47 Chev coupe ute. The $40 one allows me to keep the 1990 as a runner for a while longer.
