check if the thermostat is working properly first, place it in a tin of water and boil it. It should start to open.....

Check if the top radiator hose gets hot, that can tell you if its circulating the water around.

Check your guages are working correctly.....

Check for any white goo in the engine oil or radiator, or run the car with the radiator cap off and check for any white bubles in the water (indicates blown head gasket). Turn off the car before the water level in the radiator rises too much...

Thats just a few things to check, most importantly check if it has no leaks......

Also, since you have had the water pump replaced recently, make sure you dont have air bubles in the cooling system. On the vp's, on the thermostat housing there should be a bleeder valve to let any air out of the system....
Not really sure how to use it since i have a series one vn (the one with the thermostat at the back of the motor)....

    Hope this helps

    Unhappy Cooling problems

G'day, I am trying to find the name of a part. My commodore is leaking heaps of water out of the hose that forms the heater box bypass. When facing the front of the car, at the back left of the inlet manifold there is a hose leading down to a vavle or something that becomes the hose system for the cabin heating. It is that unit that hascorroded and is pouring out water and pressure when car is warm. if it runs to low on water and you pull up at traffic lights, it gets dangerously hot 3/4 and above on the temp. guage. As soon as I get some time off I am going to the parts store and replace it!!

Probably could have created a new thread rather then posting a reply in a 3 year old topic that isnt particularily related.
Can you name the truck with 4 wheel drive, smells like a steak and seats 35?

If your unsure on the name / model of a part number, Give your local holden dealer a ring. As for spare parts, and explain to them what your after, they will figure out what your after, and will tell you what the part is called, give u a part number, and also a cost of getting a genuine one (good for comparisons).
