Earlier today I decided to clean out the contacts in my Power Window Control Module (located to the left of the fuse area.)
I tried gently removing the 2 large coin screws (I can't think of the correct terminology right now) that hold up the 'flip box' with no luck, I then spoke to a friend who said just put abit of force into it and they should come out... still no luck, the screws didn’t even turn... by this time frustration was setting inso I decided to put excessive force on the flip box and finally got it in the 'unsecured' position, it was only then that I discovered what had happened.
I can only guess this happened when I had a new immobiliser fitted, but it looks like the 2 lugs that are meant to hold the coin screws had been snapped off & that the screws had literally been 'melted' on to hold the flip box in the 'secured' position.
So now I have no permanent way to hold the flip box in the secured position. At this very moment I have the right hand lug *just* holding on & supporting the box.
Does anyone know if the lugs are screwed on or are part of the dash (which I hope not!)
I am guessing you can still get the coin screws from Holden...
If anyone could offer any suggestions it would be much appreciated!
Thank you, (A very frustrated)
Lewis
You should be able to get them from holden, i need to get one for mine (one has a hair line crack in it). They are buttons which that when they are turned with a screw driver they lock into position (like a right angle turn).
Shouldn't cost too much for them....
Off memory, they should look like this from side on.....
I bought them from Holden and from memory they cost no more than 50 cents each, they only had grey though which buggered me up but oh well.
Thanks for the replies guys... sorry for not explaining better earlier, but my biggest worry was the mounting holes that retain the buttons.
Are they just bolted/screwed onto the dash, or part of the dash? I would check mine, but I don't wanna pull open mine & completely stuff up the last lug.
Hi MD 751,
Sorry mate but they are part of the bigger dash frame. But you'd be right some one who doesn't understand these little coin turn locks has broken them off. I've seen work done by Stereo and immobiliser "fitters" an the work is atrocious. No solder just twists and tape etc. You'll have to live with. I dumped a dash two weeks ago but even if I lived next door and gave it to you - it's hardly worth the candle to fix it that way.
Ciao.
Bugger...
I guess I will just drill 2 screws into the dash to hold it up... unless anyone else has a better suggestion?
coin screws are easily available from the wreckers if holdens dont have them.

Cheers for the reply mate... but as I listed above the coin screws are not my problem... its the plastic mounting brackets.Originally Posted by Ziggie

dont be too rash in drilling holes, it may seem like a good idea at the moment but down the track, nine times out of ten you end up regretting your decision.
I am open to any other suggestions...
There is nothing to hold the existing coin screws in place ( it is holding on by thread by *this* much. It is also sagged on the right side as their is nothing for the coin to hold onto.
I considered gluing it. Any thoughts? What type of glue would you suggest? Naturally it has to be able to come off if I ever need to change a fuse.
Maybe araldite a piece of plastic of similar shape and size to make the hole smaller. Then you could shape with a file...
Remember, araldite is just perspects![]()
