i just recently replaced the fuel pump in my VN and the fuel filter, when i started it for the first time it ran fine idling then i took it for a drive later on and now its like its only running on 4 cylinders when idling, when i put my foot down its mucks around then roars off on 6.
the engine worked fine before the pump died but since has sat in my driveway for 2weeks not doing anything.
any ideas on what the problem is?

sounds like an ignition problem, possibly a tired coil, each coil on the v6 fires 2 cylinders (known as wasted spark). in the electrical section there is athread which has all the resistance values for the different coil if you can test with a multimeter. seeing as you have changed the fuel pump maybe some dirt got into the fuel system. try running some injector cleaner through it to make sure everything is clean there. also check your plugs and leads

it would run fine on the flat at idle but as soon as you went down hill it started to choke and try to stall.
how do you know if your swirl pot is on its way out?
turned it off today with about 1/4 of a tank left and it made a gurgling noise. last time i heard that was when the pump seized and hit it with a piece of wood
